Columbia County swimming pool reopens after chemical leak

HEMLOCK TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A public pool is reopened after a chemical leak in Columbia County.

Hemlock Township Police say crews were working on the Little Fishing Creek Area Swimming Pool when a leak occurred.

Missing fisherman’s body found near Susquehanna River

It caused two different chemicals to mix with each other.

The pool is back open, operating under regular business hours.

K9 lifeguard Kelby making waves in local state park

COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new recruit on the lifeguard crew at a local state park isn't who you might expect. A four-legged friend joined the team, and she's already making waves.

When Kelby the canine lifeguard puts on her goggles and life vest, she's ready to get to work.

Kelby, a two-and-a-half-year-old Newfoundland, has been training to save lives since she was 12 weeks old.

Kelby is a lifeguard at Beltzville State Park, and she made her fourth rescue on Sunday, helping to save a man's life.

Missing fisherman's body found near Susquehanna River

BRIAR CREEK TWP., COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The body of a missing fisherman has been recovered near the Susquehanna River.

Brair Creek Township Police report that on August 4, around 8:00 a.m., the body of 70-year-old Edward Donnelly from Berwick was discovered near the Susquehanna River in the area of Berwick Test Track.

Donnelly had fallen into the river on August 2, and he never resurfaced. A search was conducted over the weekend, but was unsuccessful.

Man charged with attempted homicide after allegedly causing house fire

BRIAR CREEK BOROUGH, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police have charged a man with attempted homicide after he allegedly ignited a home with the owner inside.

On Sunday, August 3, around 4:45 a.m., troopers were called to Park Road in Brair Creek for a reported arson.

Police investigating after man was shot twice

State police say the suspect, Joseph McBrantley, 42, intentionally ignited the house on fire at four different locations while the owner was inside.

Crews search Susquehanna River for missing fisherman

BRIAR CREEK TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The search of the Susquehanna River continued on Sunday for a man who reportedly fell into the water and never resurfaced in Columbia County.

28/22 News checked out the area Sunday afternoon in Briar Creek Township, just below the Berwick-Nescopeck Bridge.

Search on hold for missing fisherman in Columbia County

Crews were back there for a second day following reports of a fisherman falling in the river Saturday afternoon.

Rescue boats hit the water, but again found no one.
