27th Annual Steamtown Marathon stepped off in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The 27th Annual Steamtown Marathon stepped off Sunday morning in NEPA.

Runners started their stretch in Forest City at 8:00 a.m., making their way to the finish line at the Lackawanna County Courthouse in Scranton.

Nearly 1,000 people from all over the world came out to participate.

The race is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, which will be held in April of next year.

Firefighters battle Beaver Township blaze

BEAVER TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities were called to battle a second-alarm blaze in Beaver Township on Sunday.

Columbia County officials say Beaver Township Volunteer Fire Company, the Main Township Volunteer Fire Company, and other crews were called to the 1400 block of State Road at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

MAIN TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Columbia County man is dead after a fatal crash Saturday afternoon.

19-year-old Robert Halye from Bloomsburg died from fatal injuries of the crash.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, crews were called to PA-339 just after 4:00 p.m.

Troopers say Halve was traveling southbound on his 2024 Kawaski Ninja 500 on PA-339 and lost control going around a curve.

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man wanted after a shooting in Bloomsburg has turned himself in to state police.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, 19-year-old Joseph Ten Eyck has turned himself in Wednesday after being charged with attempted homicide for a shooting that injured 23-year-old Tyler Brown.

State police report on October 4, Brown was found in the parking lot of Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital suffering from gunshot wounds after he was shot in a parking lot on Irondale Road.

Flags fly in Third Annual Bless Our Vets Flag Display dedicated to US military members

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two Berwick churches are holding their Third Annual Bless Our Vets Flag Display to honor local veterans.

For a $5 donation, people can dedicate a flag to current, retired, or deceased members of the US Military.

Each flag will have a card on it with the veteran's name, rank, and branch, and will be displayed in front of St. Joseph's and St. Mary's churches in Berwick.

Anyone interested in buying a flag or donating can stop by one of the churches or mail it in.

Third suspect chagred after Bloomsburg shooting

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police say they have charged a third suspect for a Bloomsburg shooting investigation.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers have identified Nicholas Romeo Jones, 20, from Berwick, as the third suspect involved in a Bloomsburg shooting investigation.

Police did not go into detail on Jones's involvement just that he has been charged with robbery and criminal use of a communication facility.

Jones was taken to the Columbia County Correctional Facility on a $75,000 straight bail.

Wanted suspect, victim facing charges in Bloomsburg shooting

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police say an accused gunman and the victim both face charges after a shooting in Bloomsburg.

Police say around 8:00 p.m. Friday, a man was found in the parking lot of Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital on Fair Street suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say they learned the man was shot in a parking lot earlier that night off Irondale Road.

Troopers are trying to track down the suspected shooter, 19-year-old Joseph Teneyck, who faces charges including attempted homicide, conspiracy to commit robbery and aggravated assault.

Festival vendors fundraise for Helene vicitms

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An effort by a group of local vendors is underway this weekend to help those suffering from the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

Several small businesses at the annual event will send part of their proceeds to points south.Those vendors tell me they want to help. As tens of thousands try and piece it back together in their lives.

PSP: Man drove himself to hospital after being shot

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Pennsylvania State Police say a man was discovered at Bloomsburg Geisinger Hospital with several gunshot wounds Friday night.

According the to the release, troopers say that a man was discovered with several gunshot wounds in the parking lot of Bloomsburg Geisinger just after 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

Officials state that through investigation, it was determined that the male was shot in a parking area off of Irondale Road in Bloomsburg, and drove himself to the hospital.
