One dead after tractor accident in Columbia county

BENTON TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY— A man is dead after a farming accident in Columbia County Sunday morning.

A call came in around 11:00 a.m. with a report of a farming accident according to the Columbia County Communication Center.

Authorities say that a man was found pinned under a farming tractor in the 4500 block of Red Rock Road.

According to the corner's report, 69-year-old Luke Verbyla, of Benton Township, was operating a tractor to load onto a trailer before it flipped.

Candidates for Columbia County Commissioner Come to Campus

The Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce hosted an open forum with the candidates for Columbia County Commissioner at the Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg campus. 

In Hartline Science Center’s Kuster Auditorium, the Democratic Ed Sanders III and David Kovach, and Republican candidates Dean Brewer and Randy Karschner sat down to discuss issues and their stances on energy production, education and growing Columbia County.

Superior Court Candidate to Visit Bloomsburg Fair

Superior Court candidate Jill Beck will visit the Bloomsburg Fair on Saturday, September 23rd. She is scheduled to arrive at 2:00 p.m. Accompanying Beck will be candidates running for local office in Columbia County.

Beck has made it a purpose to visit all 67 counties in the state before the primary to speak with regular Pennsylvanians about the effects of the judiciary system on everyday life. Her campaign for Superior Court did not slow her down, as she has traveled to nearly all 67 counties again since the start.

Detour on Lightstreet Road in Bloomsburg

A three-week detour will go into effect at approximately 7 a.m. next Monday, April 29, on Route 487 (Lightstreet Road) in the Town of Bloomsburg. A contractor will construct a pedestrian bridge over the street at Bloomsburg University.

The detour route will be Routes 11/487 (East Street) and Central Road.

Work is expected to be completed and the detour lifted by May 18.
