Lake Township man charged with sexually assaulting teenager

LAKE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Pittston Township Police say they have charged a 40-year-old man with sexually assaulting a teenager on multiple instances, who later became pregnant.

Ryan McDermott allegedly sexually assaulted and recorded several instances that took place across multiple Luzerne County hotels.

Police say they first became aware of the incident when contacted by a college police department in Illinois.

The Federal Reserve cut the lending rate between 4.25% and 4%. This is the first time in the calendar year a cut has been made.

WYOMING, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In light of two high-profile police shootings in Pennsylvania, 28/22 News wanted to take a closer look at police training practices.

28/22's Joe Mason spoke to area police chiefs today and has a look at how police train for a crisis.

Two Pennsylvania state troopers were seriously injured after a shooting in Susquehanna County in early August. On Wednesday, three police officers were shot dead, and two were left in critical condition in York County.

Teenager's death ruled homicide, PSP investigating

PINE TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State Police are investigating the death of a teen in Columbia County after his death was ruled a homicide.

Officials say EMS was dispatched to a residence in Pine Township around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, where they found a boy deceased. State police and the Columbia County Coroner's office also responded to the home.

Dog kennel not allowing visits due to illness

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Visits to the dog kennels at the SPCA of Luzerne County are temporarily suspended due to an illness.

The SPCA announced on Friday that visits, meet-and-greets, and public interactions with the dog kennels would be suspended until further notice due to an upper respiratory illness spreading.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two business owners, one from Lackawanna County, have pleaded guilty after investigators say failed to pay employment taxes.

34-year-old Vincent Guntur, of Dunmore, and 65-year-old Angelica Jones, of Hauppauge, New York, owned and operated four companies, Mega & G Inc., Yoagen LLC, Phoenix 89 LLC, and Starlight & Sun Inc. from 2018 through the third quarter of 2024.

Drug bust finds dealer selling in abandoned warehouse, police say

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police report a man has been arrested after a drug bust revealed he was selling crystal meth out of an abandoned warehouse.

Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian J. Gallagher says 44-year-old Earl Locklear of Scranton was arrested after a drug trafficking investigation.

Detectives stated Locklear was squatting in an abandoned warehouse in the 300 block of Olive Street in Scranton, where he would handle his drug sales.
