Pocono Wildlife asks for fish donations to feed eagles

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center is asking for fish donations to help feed their wildlife.

Pocono Wildlife has two eagles in their care who prefer trout, but they can also take salmon and bluegill.

They are taking donations, but request that you bring your fishing license with you as required by law.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) program that Pennsylvania relies on to prevent floods or other natural disasters has been eliminated by the Trump administration.

Over 140 pending applicants worth more than $700,000,000, now scrapped. That includes a pending application in Scranton for the September 2023 flood.

Scranton had two applications to help them purchase condemned homes and other properties destroyed by the September 2023 flood.

Now the city is trying to find new ways to help these families move on.

PA state parks see uptick in reservations

KIDDER TOWNSHIP, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's going to be a busy summer at Pennsylvania state parks. In anticipation of warmer weather, parks and forests are seeing an uptick in camping reservations compared to last year.

Pennsylvania state parks remain staffed and ready to welcome visitors.

Data from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) shows PA state parks and forests are seeing a 30% increase in campsite reservations following the launch of DCNR's "Still Open, Still Awesome" campaign last month.

Former tissue plant destroyed in Lackawanna County blaze

RANSOM TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Investigators are looking into a fire at an old factory in Lackawanna County.

Flames broke out after 4:00 a.m. Wednesday at the old Cascade Paper Plant outside of Clarks Summit.

The factory made toilet tissue before closing in 2021.

The interior sustained damage.

A state police fire marshal is investigating.

Two charged with trafficking 500 grams of meth

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities have arrested and charged two men for allegedly trafficking over 500 grams of methamphetamine in Pennsylvania.

According to the Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus, a federal grand jury charged Eli Valentine Calero, 43, of East Stroudsburg, and John Charles Ehrhard, Jr., 56, of Stroudsburg, with drug trafficking and firearms offenses.

Between May 2024 and March 2025, Calero and Ehrhard, Jr. allegedly conspired to sell over 500 grams of methamphetamine in Monroe County.

Wilkes-Barre holds hearing on UGI's rate hike request

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's a day to learn more about a proposed natural gas rate hike request filed by UGI, and also a day for customers to sound off about how that rate hike, if approved, will impact them.

The average residential customer would see a hike of about 11% in their monthly bill.

The Public Utility Commission (PUC) held a public hearing at Wilkes-Barre City Hall.

UGI customers are really angry about this rate hike request, saying they are being taken advantage of.

Three arrested after multiple thefts at Hillside Farms

KINGSTON TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police report they have arrested three people involved in multiple thefts at Hillside Farms.

The Kingston Township Police Department stated they were told by The Lands at Hillside Farms about a series of thefts between March 30 and April 6.

Through further investigation, officers said they arrested three people involved in the thefts, and they have been charged for these incidents.

Two accused of attacking pregnant woman at park

LOCK HAVEN, CLINTON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a woman and a 15-year-old are charged after an alleged attack on a pregnant woman at a park.

According to the Clinton County District Attorney's Office, 21-year-old Hailey Gillott of Lock Haven and an unnamed 15-year-old girl assaulted a woman at a playground in Hoberman Park.

Police say the attack was caught on camera by a witness who was recording the incident on her phone. Gillott and the teen knocked the 19-year-old victim to the ground and proceeded to kick/punch her in the head and abdomen, investigators reported.
