Swoyersville boy wins National Mullet Championship

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A local Swoyersville boy with great hair brought home a win in this year's National Mullet Championship.

Six-year-old Kamden Cunningham, better known as the "Kammander", won the kid's division of the competition.

He beat out hundreds of kids from all across the world with over 2,200 votes taking home a grand prize of $5,000.

Stopping the growing mosquito population in Plains Township

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A sharp rise in the area's mosquito population has prompted officials to try and stop the spread in Luzerne County.

The Luzerne Conservation District sprayed in Plains Township Thursday, just one of several cities affected in Luzerne County.

The mosquito spray, known as aqua-duet, is applied at a rate not harmful to humans or pets, according to the conservation district.

Schiel's Market flooded after storms pass through NEPA

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The heavy rain that came through Pennsylvania caused flooding in Luzerne County and officials got multiple calls involving flooding in parts of Wilkes-Barre.

Flood waters have washed out the Schiel's Market on Hanover Street just before closing Thursday night.

Market employees, DPW crews, and volunteers were all busy cleaning up the mess inside and outside the store.

They've been mopping and shoveling water outside of the market for the last several hours.
