The Fourth Annual First Responders Rib Eating Contest was held Monday at Texas Roadhouse in Dickson City.

Everyone who participated was a first responder and had the opportunity to compete for $1,000 dollars to donate to their charity of choice.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County grocery store that was forced to close its doors because of flooding has announced it will be re-opening.

Schiel's Family Market on Hanover Street in Wilkes-Barre says they will back open at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The store was closed since Thursday because of nearly six inches of water flooding the store.

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Several establishments in Pennsylvania have been charged after liquor control enforcement operations were performed within multiple counties.

The Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement (LCE) released details on recently performed compliance checks.

LCE officers are responsible for enforcing liquor laws and related provisions within the region of the state licensed by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

LEHIGHTON, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Ten drivers have been arrested during DUI checkpoints set throughout Labor Day weekend in Carbon County.

Traffic enforcement including sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols were conducted as part of a statewide crackdown on impaired driving.

According to the Lehighton Borough Police Department, from August 23, 8:00 p.m. to August 24, 2:00 a.m. officers pulled over 22 vehicles, and one driver, suspected of driving under the influence, was arrested.

AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — This summer’s record-breaking travel season is not over yet as Labor Day is expected to be the busiest ever for airports.

28/22 News stopped by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport to talk to travelers passing through for the holiday.

"It’s really quiet here," said Ken Sarnoski of Tucson, Arizona.

The quiet is a good sign for travelers flying out of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport on Labor Day.
