Police say intercepted drug transaction leads to 24-minute chase

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two men were arrested after police say they intercepted a drug transaction that caused a 24-minute chase.

On Tuesday, April 1, the Drug Enforcement Agency in New York informed investigators of a possible drug transaction happening in the Hazleton area.

According to the Hazleton City Police, officers set up surveillance in the area of South Locust Street and saw the transaction being made.

Pa. student charged with threats towards school

DANVILLE, MONTOUR COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police state a student is facing charges after he allegedly posted threats online towards the Danville Middle School.

On Wednesday, April 2, around 1:30 a.m., the Danville Police Department was informed of a student posting a threat on social media against the Danville Middle School.

The FBI red-flagged the threat and relayed it to the Pennsylvania State Police, leading to Danville Police contacting the student in question.

(WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania American Water has stated repairs are underway to alleviate discolored water impacting areas across northeastern Pennsylvania on Wednesday.

Pennsylvania American Water stated they are aware of the issue of discolored water in the following areas:

Duryea

Pittston

West Pittston

Exeter

Wyoming

Swoyersville

Moosic

Authorities say this is an aesthetic issue and does not impact water quality.

I-80 westbound back open after tractor-trailer crash

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A section of Interstate 80 westbound was shut down after a crash occurred Wednesday morning.

According to PennDOT, I-80 West was shut down from Exit 256 (Route 93 / Conyngham / Nescopeck) to Exit 242 (Route 339 / Mainville / Mifflinville) due to a tractor-trailer crash that occurred at mile marker 251.5.

Crash closes section of I-81 North

A detour that was put in place has been lifted.

The interstate was opened back up around 11:00 a.m.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A section of Interstate 81 North was closed after a crash that occurred Wednesday morning.

According to PennDOT, I-81 North was shut down for several hours at Exit 180 (Moosic) due to a tractor-trailer crash.

The road reopened around 11:00 a.m.
