DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is encouraging many to look to change the current rhetoric among those with different views. One local university's Republican Club is honoring Kirk by doing just that: holding an open discussion.
Misericordia University Young Republicans hosted an open discussion at the campus dining hall on Friday.
The forum, coming just days after Kirk's assassination, made discussions like these popular in recent years. The assassination hit home for students who were inspired by his message.

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It is that time of year when the Pocono Mountains Community Fundraiser supports non-profits doing life-changing work in Monroe County.
The event, now in its 22nd year, has raised more than $3 million for our neighbors in need. This year, four organizations were selected to receive funding.
Cynthia Lang is grocery shopping. But she's not at the grocery store, and her bill is free. "It's a lot of help, you get a lot of food here," Lang said.

Meals on Wheels of NEPA officially broke ground Friday morning on its new home in Scranton.
The long-awaited relocation to Cherry Street will feature a high-efficiency commercial kitchen designed to double the organization`s current meal production of more than 1,500 meals daily.
Their executive director says this will empower them to dream bigger, do more, and ultimately serve more people than ever before.

TAYLOR, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two parents are now facing charges after police say their child was found on the side of the road with a sign asking for help.
According to the criminal complaint, an officer was deployed to the 200 block of Main Street in Taylor on August 31, around 4:45 p.m., after a caller reported a boy near the roadway with a cardboard sign that stated "PLS HeLP."
The caller told the officer that the boy was crying, visibly dirty, and wearing a cast on his leg.

POCONO PINES, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An investigation is underway after police say two people were found dead inside their home in Monroe County.
The Pocono Mountain Regional Police stated officers were called to the 170 block of Crockett's Crescent in Pocono Pines for a welfare check.
A family member reported to police that William and Ellen Nathan, both 82, have not been heard from since the weekend prior.
