Church fundraises for team's Little League World Series trip

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Potato pancakes, porketta sandwiches, and clam chowder: Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre set up a food sale on Monday, and the locals came out in droves.

"This is great. It's our local community, like I said, the Bog is just down the road. Many of the parishioners here, when we were kids, we grew up there. And so, it feels really wonderful to be able to give back," Holy Trinity Orthodox Church Parishioner Sandra Serafin told 28/22 News.

Search continues for man accused of pistol-whipping pregnant woman

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's a crime that police say is usually committed in the shadows, behind closed doors. We are talking about domestic violence.

In Hazleton recently, domestic violence was front and center when a man allegedly pistol-whipped a pregnant woman in the middle of the street in broad daylight.

That man, Rodelfy Litriano Corniel, remains on the run. An arrest warrant was issued for Corniel 11 days ago. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Man stabbed 12 times after refusing alleged sexual advance

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man was found stabbed 12 times after he claims to have declined sex from a woman, leading to an assault.

On July 17, officers were called to an apartment complex on Roosevelt Street in Edwardsville for a reported stabbing. Once on the scene, the victim was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood with injuries to his abdomen.

A witness gave police the suspected knife used in the assault and informed them that the stabbing happened in the parking lot, investigators reported.

Woman found covered in blood accused of stabbing

TOBYHANNA, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman is facing charges, police say she was found walking, covered in blood, after a stabbing.

On July 21, around 9:50 p.m., officers were called to Starlight Terrace in Tobyhanna for a reported stabbing. While police were responding to the scene, they said reports came in for a woman walking on Winding Way, covered in blood.

The suspect, identified as Colleen Hall, 56, of Tobyhanna, was combative when police attempted to arrest her, kicking an officer in the chest.

Law enforcement could be required to remove masks, show visible IDs in Pennsylvania

(WHTM) — A newly proposed bill in the State House could make it much easier to identify law enforcement.

According to a co-sponsorship memo, The Officer Visibility Act, circulated by Rep. Paul Friel (D-26), among others, would require all government agents and law enforcement to wear identifiable uniforms or clothing and prohibit the use of face coverings, masks, or concealing apparel that obscures identity during operations, under defined circumstances.

Swoyersville council member allegedly vandalized cabin with homophobic message

APOLACON TWP., SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Swoyersville council member is being charged after state police say he vandalized a hunting cabin with a homophobic message.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, in April, troopers received a report of a hunting cabin being damaged. A member of the cabin claimed 48-year-old Adam Christian was banned from, and has since been returning and damaging, the property, PSP reported.

Teen arrested for allegedly stabbing man's face

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A teen has been arrested after police say he stabbed a man in the face during a fight in Scranton.

According to the Scranton Police Department, on July 12, around 3:00 a.m., officers were in the area of Mulberry Street and Kellum Court when a 23-year-old suffering from a stab wound approached them.

Vehicle crashes into Wilkes-Barre Public Square

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A vehicle crashed into Public Square in Wilkes-Barre early Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported around 2:30 a.m. for a vehicle that had plowed into Public Square.

28/22 News found police tape surrounding the area and debris scattered across the square, including some granite blocks that had been knocked out of place.

Residents weigh in six months after Trump swears in

Police, fire crews, and several ambulances were on scene.

It's unclear how many people were in the vehicle, or if anyone was hurt.
