SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new building is now dedicated and blessed at the University of Scranton.
Weiss Hall, named after Robert and Marilyn Weiss, is the university's center for workforce development, applied research, and outreach.
A crowd gathered inside the building for remarks and tours on Wednesday, but the event was shadowed a bit, as about 50 faculty members stood outside Weiss Hall protesting with signs that read "Fair faculty contract now."

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A former elementary school in Monroe County now serves a new purpose. The Ramsey School in Stroudsburg now houses pre-k, Head Start classes, and college and career readiness programs for students ages zero to 24.
Their first day of operation was Wednesday.
The school closed back in 2014 and was updated thanks to the Pocono Services Families and Children's Re-Imagine Ramsey Project.

(WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities say a New Jersey man died from drowning at the Delaware River Gap National Recreation Area on Tuesday.
Around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the park's emergency communications center received a report of a drowning in the Delaware River, according to the press release.
National Park Service rangers and dive team members, New Jersey State Police, and water rescue teams from the Portland Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call, officials added.

DANVILLE, MONTOUR COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Montour County man was arrested Wednesday after breaking into a smoke shop in Danville.
According to a press release, police were dispatched to Smoke Rings, a vape and smoke shop, around 3 a.m. Wednesday for a suspect inside the business.
Woman facing charges after Hazle Township stabbing
No one was seen inside the store when officers arrived, but officials say security footage showed a man entering through the broken storefront window and removing merchandise and lottery tickets.

PITTSTON TWP., LUXERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters put out a vehicle fire on Wednesday afternoon after the driver crashed into a utility pole.
Crews were called to the area by The Knights Inn off Route 315 around 12:15 p.m.
Assistant Chief Tony Angelella of the Pittston Township Fire Department stated that a car crashed into a utility pole for an unknown reason, splitting the pole in half.

(WBRE/WYOU) — AARP Pennsylvania is issuing a warning to consumers about the growing number of cryptocurrency scams.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, consumers lost more than $1.4 billion to cryptocurrency scams in 2024 alone.
AARP says many of these scammers contact consumers through text, email, or social media and promise victims quick profits, romance, or threaten legal trouble.

On September 2, around 1:00 p.m., a crash occurred in the area of the 800 block of Barnsville Drive in Schuylkill County.
Driver dies after vehicle hits tire of truck on I-81
Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio stated 90-year-old Raymond Dawson was driving his vehicle when it collided with a transit van.
Dawson was taken to the hospital and died around 4:40 pm. due to blunt force injuries.

BUTLER TWP., SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police report a driver died in a crash after his vehicle hit the tire of a truck, causing him to roll over.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, on September 2, around 2:00 p.m., a crash occurred between an SUV and a truck on Interstate 81 north in Butler Township, Schuylkill County.
Driver charged after deadly W-B Twp. crash
Police say the crash happened when the SUV hit the back tire of the truck. The impact caused the SUV to roll over an unknown number of times.
