Two hospitalized after propane tank explosion

SALEM TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — There's an alert on Tuesday after a propane tank explosion on Monday afternoon injured two people. 28/22 News Reporter Joe Mason has an update on the explosion and how to properly store your propane tank.

The two people, a man and a woman, were sent to the hospital for burns and injuries.

That explosion happened at 184 Main Street in Salem Township.

According to the Salem Township Fire Department, a man hit a propane tank with the blades of his sit-on lawnmower. The call came in around 1:53 p.m. on Monday.

School board passes divisive polices, impacts transgender students

SALEM TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some changes are coming to a local school district when it comes to the treatment of transgender students. The school board passed two new policies Monday evening, affecting their names and which bathrooms they are allowed to use.

It's a policy that's quite polarizing.

Berwick School District is no stranger to policies impacting transgender students.

Just last year, they passed a different policy barring trans athletes from competing under their new identity.

Wilkes-Barre announces upcoming road closure, crews to work on water line

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials say a portion of a Wilkes-Barre street will be closed off later this week as crews work on a water line.

On Monday, Wilkes-Barre City announced East Northhampton Street between South Wilkes-Barre Boulevard and South Pennsylvania Avenue will be closed to all traffic on Wednesday, September 10, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

2 injured, hospitalized after propane tank explosion

SALEM TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two people were injured and flown to a hospital after a propane tank exploded Monday afternoon.

On Monday, the Salem Township Fire Department posted on Facebook information on the incident.

Authorities say they were called around 2:00 p.m. to the 100 block of Main Street in the Beach Haven section of the Township for a fire after a propane explosion.

Gunfire in Wilkes-Barre causes property damage in North End

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Multiple gunshots fired in a Wilkes-Barre neighborhood caused damage to several people's property.

On September 6, around 5:30 a.m., officers were called to the 400 block of North River Street for a report of gunshots being fired.

Once on the scene, the victim stated he heard five gunshots fired while he was inside a house, and when he left, he saw bullets had hit his vehicle several times, police reported.
