Forty Fort garden center warns of frost impact on plants

FORTY FORT, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local garden center is warning about the dangers frost could have on plants.

Frost advisories are in place for a good portion of central and eastern Pennsylvania on Monday.

At Edwards Garden Center in Forty-Fort, experts say if you have plants outside, make sure to cover them with a plastic bag or move them indoors.

WEST PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A good meal for a good cause: On Monday, dozens came out to support Boy Scout Troop 352.

Based out of Bethlehem, the scouts held a Ziti dinner at the First United Methodist Church in West Pittston.

For $10, diners got a nice portion of Ziti, bread, and salad served along with the troop's secret recipe dressing.

All the money raised will pay for excursions the scouts take throughout the year.

Three Wilkes-Barre firefighters honored after saving woman's life

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Three local firefighters were honored for their bravery after saving a woman's life during an apartment fire earlier this year.

In February, B'nai B'rith Apartments on East Northampton Street in Wilkes-Barre had to be evacuated after a fire broke out on the second floor.

The three firefighters being honored on Monday helped a woman who was trapped in her apartment and couldn't get out.

'Nanticoke' horror movie coming to Garden Drive-In

HUNLOCK CREEK, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Something wicked is coming to a screen near you: A horror movie about Nanticoke will premiere this year.

The movie Nanticoke is about an up-and-coming baseball star who returns to his hometown of Nanticoke but gets caught in a military experiment gone wrong.

F.M. Kirby Center remembers flooding one year later

Nanticoke will show at the Garden Drive-In out in Hunlock Creek on November 2 and 3.

The movie does use strong language and is not recommended for children under the age of 18.

Tractor-trailer fire backs up traffic on I-81

DUPONT, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Traffic was backed up for most of the day on one part of Interstate 81 after a tractor-trailer caught fire.

Details are limited at this time, however, 28/22 News can confirm crews were called to a section of Interstate 81 Northbound near Dupont for a tractor-trailer fire.

Possible frost, flurries throughout PA overnight

Officials say the fire was put out just before 12:00 p.m.

It's unclear if anyone was injured or the cause of the fire.

The investigation remains ongoing.

F.M. Kirby Center going strong one year after flooding

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's been just over a year since the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts was hit with devastating flooding from a water main break.

Renovations wrapped up just in time for the start of their 38th season.

Just one year ago, more than 500,000 gallons of water destroyed several spaces in the F.M. Kirby Center's lower level.

Mail-in ballots with misspelling being reissued in Luzerne County

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Thousands of voters in Luzerne County will soon be receiving new mail-in ballots. This was after the name of one of the candidates in a State House Race was spelled incorrectly.

28/22 News first reported word of the problem last Friday, and on Monday, efforts are being ramped up to fix the problem.

This ballot error involves the race for the 119th State House seat, which includes the Nanticoke-Plymouth areas and parts of Mountain Top.

The stove tops are hot cooking up meals at Ollie’s Restaurant in Edwardsville, but these aren’t being served at the restaurant.

They’re getting packed up to be delivered to children in need, all part of the non-profit, Dinners 4 Kids.

Luzerne County Board of Elections changes 8 polling locations

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Luzerne County Board of Elections is changing the location of eight polling places for the upcoming election.

Pittston City Wards 2 and 3 will move to the St. Joseph Morello Church.

While Wright Township District 1 and District 2 are at the Wright Municipal Building.

Scranton marathon expo kicks off

Wilkes-Barre City Wards 10 and 11 are now at St. Nicholas Church and Wilkes-Barre City Wards 15 and 16 will vote at St. Aloysius Padden Hall.
