Alleged drug dealer charged, bust reveals several pounds of weed

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An alleged drug dealer has been arrested after police say a three-month investigation led to the discovery of several pounds of marijuana.

On August 28, the Hazleton Police Department Special Response Team executed a search and arrest warrant at a residence on Peace Street in Hazleton for 22-year-old Sanyel Calzado Berroa.

Crash on I-80 had shut down all lanes of traffic

(WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT reported a crash on Interstate 80 Thursday morning had shut down all lanes of traffic.

PennDOT stated a crash occurred on I-80 westbound between Exit 256: PA 93-Conygham/Nescopeck in Luzerne County and Exit 242: PA 339-Mainville/Mifflinville in Columbia County around 12:40 a.m.

Details on the crash are limited at this time. Both lanes of traffic on the westbound side were shut down, and drivers were being directed towards Route 93 and Route 11.

Mold tests at Wilkes-Barre elementary school come back clean

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — There is no mold at a Wilkes-Barre elementary school, 28/22 News first reported about on Tuesday.

The principal at Kistler Elementary in Wilkes-Barre says the test results for mold came back clean.

The tests were ordered after custodians spotted white patches in two classrooms on Tuesday.

School at Kistler Elementary will begin on Thursday as scheduled.

Faculty protest outside new building dedication

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new building is now dedicated and blessed at the University of Scranton.

Weiss Hall, named after Robert and Marilyn Weiss, is the university's center for workforce development, applied research, and outreach.

A crowd gathered inside the building for remarks and tours on Wednesday, but the event was shadowed a bit, as about 50 faculty members stood outside Weiss Hall protesting with signs that read "Fair faculty contract now."

Closed school reopens with rejuvenated mission

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A former elementary school in Monroe County now serves a new purpose. The Ramsey School in Stroudsburg now houses pre-k, Head Start classes, and college and career readiness programs for students ages zero to 24.

Their first day of operation was Wednesday.

The school closed back in 2014 and was updated thanks to the Pocono Services Families and Children's Re-Imagine Ramsey Project.

LEHMAN TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Only at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds in Lehman Township will you find elephants flying in the sky before the sun comes up.

“It goes high enough for them for the thrill, but it’s not crazy like the other rides for the teenagers, so it’s an in-between ride for them,” explained Jason Houghton, president of Houghton Enterprises.

Jumbo is a new addition to the fair, adding to the list of entertainment at the five-day event. And what’s entertainment without some snacks?
