Eight polling location changes in Luzerne County to know

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Board of Elections for Luzerne County announced previously eight locations in the county have been changed ahead of the upcoming election.

On October 10, the Luzerne County Board of Elections announced locations of eight polling places were changed in Pittston, Wilkes-Barre, and Wright Township.

In Pittston City, Wards 02 and 03, originally located at the Pittston Memorial Library, has been moved to the Saint Joseph Morello Church at 237 William Street.

More charges levied against woman accused of vacation fraud

MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — People across NEPA defrauded of thousands of dollars after being ripped off by a travel company.

South Abington Township, Scranton, and Archbald Borough Police say 69-year-old Eileen Miner from West Pittston is facing felony theft and fraud charges, after taking money from victims through her travel company, Thompson Tours.

Police say Miner took around $50,000 from victims through her travel company.

New program in Wilkes-Barre to help transfer students

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A program to help students keep college costs down in NEPA.

Kings College officials announced on Tuesday transfer students are now eligible for the King's College Luzerne and Lackawanna Education Opportunity Program.

"We just love Halloween, as you can tell, so, we just thought it would be fun to raise some money for the Think Pink Foundation, which helps women with cancer in Luzerne County," Kim Davis from Dorrance Township said.

West Pittston woman facing vacation fraud charges

ARCHBALD, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A West Pittston woman is facing theft and felony fraud charges for allegedly promising vacations and keeping the money.

South Abington Township and Archbald Borough police say 69-year-old Eileen Miner took around $42,000 from victims through her travel company, Thompson Tours.

Two groups of hopeful travelers were allegedly defrauded of thousands of dollars.

This after booking through what they thought was a reputable travel company, Thompson Tours. The business is located in a plaza on Birney Avenue in Moosic.

Wilkes-Barre mayor announces 2025 General Budget

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The 2025 General Budget for Wilkes-Barre was announced on Tuesday by Mayor George Brown.

The budget does not pose a tax increase for the city because of an anticipated increase in earned income tax.

Mayor Brown says the city is also facing challenges with the loss of Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital's annual real estate tax.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Lackawanna County released a preliminary budget for 2025 on Tuesday, and it includes a hefty tax increase.

At $167,000,000, the proposed budget from Commissioners Bill Gaughan and Matt McGloin aims to tackle a nearly $29,000,000 deficit by raising property taxes, cutting healthcare costs, and eliminating 90 vacant jobs.

It also puts a freeze on wage increases for county employees.

This store owner felt compelled to help the victims of Hurricane Helene in any way she could.

Man heads to trial on aggravated assault charges after Kingston stabbing

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man will stand trial on charges that he allegedly stabbed another man in Kingston back in August.

22-year-old Ryan McCawley Mathis, of Plains Township, was in Luzerne County Central Court in Wilkes-Barre Tuesday morning.

Police say he stabbed 20-year-old Aiden Gregorowicz several times during an altercation under the Pierce Street Bridge on August 30.

Teen charged with robbing Wilkes-Barre pharmacy

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A teenager is being charged with robbing a Wilkes-Barre pharmacy for a box of syringes.

According to the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, on Monday around 10:45 a.m., officers were called to Harold's Pharmacy on Old River Road for a report of a robbery.

Once on the scene, officers said the victim claimed the suspect entered the business and asked to be given a syringe.
