Lane restrictions set for Monday on Interstate 81

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced there will be lane restrictions on Interstate 81 (I-81) northbound and southbound in Susquehanna County on Monday.

According to PennDOT, the lane restrictions will be on Monday, March 4, on I-81 North and South from Exit 206(Glenwood/Lenoxville) to Exit 223 (New Milford/Lakeside) in Susquehanna County, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

W-B General Hospital fined for labor violations

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wilkes-Barre General Hospital has settled with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) regarding numerous Act 102 violations.

According to the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals (PASNAP), Act 102 is a law passed in 2009 that bans healthcare facilities from requiring direct caregivers to work more than their regularly scheduled hours.

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced there will be a lane restriction on Interstate 81 (I-81) southbound on Monday.

According to PennDOT, the lane restriction will be on Monday, March 4, on I-81 South from Exit 151A (Stroudsburg) to Exit 145 (West Hazleton) in Luzerne County, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

NESCOPECK TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Luzerne County residents got their first look at what could be the new I-80 bridges over the Nescopeck Creek.

PennDOT held a meeting where locals can see first-hand the pre-construction phase PennDOT has in place for the eastbound and westbound bridges.

Officials say the bridges, which were built in 1965, need to be replaced and repaired.

The upgrade would include new modernized bridges with wider shoulders.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Ukrainian ballet company performed in Wilkes-Barre Thursday night as their countrymen and women slog through the second year of a vicious war against Russia.

Many of the dancers on tour are from Ukraine and have not been able to return home since the fighting began.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport offers new flights

AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — United Airlines is making changes out of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport that could have an impact on travelers heading to Newark.

In June, United Airlines will begin offering twice-daily flights out of AVP straight to our nation's capital to Washington Dulles International Airport.

Airport Director Carl Beardsley Jr. says affordable flights will be offered seven days a week with a flexible choice of time departures and returns.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — After an Edwardsville business was destroyed by a fire, the community rallied to help the owner of NEPA Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) business relocate.

After a fire destroyed a local mixed martial arts studio on February 15, owner Kyle Reed was devastated.

"Probably one of the most horrific experiences I've ever had to experience my life from getting the phone call to pulling up on the scene and just seeing everything that I built I dreamed and everything like that just gone with hours," said NEPA MMA owner Kyle Reed.

Decomposed remains discovered in Wilkes-Barre home

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Investigators announced that decomposed remains were discovered in the basement of a Wilkes-Barre home.

Police Chief Joseph Coffay, Luzerne County Coroner Jillian Matthews, and District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce released information Thursday afternoon regarding the Carlisle Street investigation which has been ongoing in the Diamond City this week.

Arrests made, two found with meth near San Souci Parkway

HANOVER TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two people have been arrested and charged after police say they were found with methamphetamine.

According to the Hanover Township Police Department, on February 20 around 1:10 a.m., 45-year-old, Frank Geklinsky, of Nanticoke and 38-year-old Jocelynne A Krout, of Wilkes-Barre Township were located in the area of the San Souci.

Juvenile reported missing in Luzerne County

Police say both were found in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. 

Both are facing drug-related charges.
