Irish groups prepare for Scranton St. Patrick’s Parade

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We’re just one day away from the Scranton St. Patrick’s Parade, and hundreds of groups are getting ready to take part in the celebration.

It’s a sight and sound popular during the month of March, bagpipes and Irish Step Dancing.

Both Jimmy Losavich with the Black Diamond Pipe Band and students with the Joyce School of Irish Dance have put in nearly a year of practice for the Scranton St. Patrick’s parade.

500 grams of meth seized, two facing charges

(WBRE/WYOU) — Two people are facing charges after investigators stated they seized 500 grams of methamphetamine and several guns from their possession.

According to acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus, a federal grand jury indicted 34-year-old Craig Lee Hickson of Plymouth and 46-year-old Rasheeda Kelly of Wilkes-Barre on drug trafficking and firearms violations.

Suspect wanted after armed robbery at store

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are searching for a suspect who they say robbed a store at gunpoint.

According to the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, on March 7, around 5:00 a.m., officers were called to a business on the 600 block of Hazle Street for a report of an armed robbery.

Once on the scene, the employee stated to police that the suspect entered the business and asked to purchase two packs of cigarettes.

Fire department unveils new vehicles

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A local fire department unveiled three new chief fire vehicles.

They were showcased at the southside fire station on Broad Street in Hazleton.

The vehicles are 2024 F-250 pickup trucks, replacing their 2017 models.

The trucks are equipped with all emergency lighting plus roll out trays, SCBA holders, and extinguisher holders.

The vehicles will be used by the department chiefs on duty for all responses, emergency responses, and for everyday fire department business.

Alleged drug apartment shut down, various narcotics seized

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — After a month-long investigation police say they shut down a drug apartment and arrested a man for selling various narcotics.

During February, Pittston City's Special Investigation Unit said they started a narcotics investigation for 44-year-old Alonzo Poole, of Pittston, who is accused of selling various drugs.
