Mother and grandmother charged in child abuse case

EXETER, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Investigators are calling it one of the most brutal cases of child abuse they have ever seen. A malnourished 11-year-old girl suffering from bruising and burns was restrained to a bed.

And what makes it even more disturbing, detectives say, the child's mother and grandmother are the accused abusers.

Cruzin' the Square Car show returns for 2025

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The City of Wilkes-Barre announced the Cruzin' the Square Car Show will return to Public Square on Friday, April 25.

The car show will start on April 25 and continue on the last Friday of each month through October, including the dates May 30, June 27, July 25, August 29, September 26, and October 31.

9 displaced after Taylor house fire

TAYLOR, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters, the fire marshal, and the Red Cross were called to a house fire Tuesday evening in Lackawanna County.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., Authorities say the Taylor Fire Department was called to the unit block of Kennedy Boulevard for a reported residential structure fire.

Wes Jones, Chief of the Taylor Borough Fire Department, told 28/22 News they were called to the scene for what was initially reported as a couch fire.

Two women accused of restraining malnourished child to bed

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two women have been arrested after investigators say a child in their care was malnourished and restrained to a bed.

According to Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce, 52-year-old Stacey Ann Louder and 35-year-old Amanda Lynn Gregorio, both of Exeter Borough, were arrested for aggravated assault of a victim under thirteen.

Detectives stated that while under the custody of Louder and Gregorio, the child was restrained to their bed by their hands, chest, feet, and legs, including while they were asleep.

Pittston police uses social media to fight drug dealers

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some might call it a "sign of the times," and a Luzerne County police department says it is paying dividends in their efforts to get drugs off the streets.

Pittston City Police say while it is not high-tech, it is effective.

The sign may not be fancy, but police say since they have been posting this sign outside of suspected drug houses and on social media. They have been getting more tips from the public about other suspected drug activity.
