Driver charged after deadly W-B Twp. crash

WILKES-BARRE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The driver involved in a crash that killed a man has been charged with homicide by vehicle while under the influence, police stated.

State police stated on August 23, they were called to a single-vehicle crash on the Exit 168 off-ramp of Interstate 81 around 2:30 a.m.

As stated in the affidavit, a man, 26-year-old Adam Shaw of Plymouth, was found dead on the roadway in front of the car, appearing to have been ejected.

Naked man accused of assaults at senior living home

BUTLER TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police arrested a man after they say he broke into an assisted living home while naked and assaulted several residents.

According to the Butler Township Police, officers received a 911 call from the Fritzingertown Senior Living Community around 11:50 p.m., claiming a "naked intruder" was assaulting residents in the facility.

Peter Shaffern of Kingston has been managing kidney disease for the last 10 years.

28/22 News had the chance to sit down and talk with him and his wife about what it has been like waiting for a perfect match.

Peter Shaffern just turned 64 years old last week. He enjoys tinkering with his train sets and woodworking machine to pass the time as he manages a kidney disease and is still waiting for a match.

Man accused of exposing himself while dancing on top of fire truck

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man climbed, danced, and exposed himself on top of a fire truck in Wilkes-Barre Sunday evening.

According to the Wilkes-Barre City Police, on August 31, around 7:30 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Wood Street for a report of an unresponsive man.

Firefighters stated that a man, later identified as Junior Batista Rivas, 36, of Wilkes-Barre, was trying to climb onto the fire truck.

Authorities told 28/22 News the roadway reopened at about 6:00 p.m. Monday evening.

Big Brothers Big Sisters hosted its first Back To School Low Cost Haircuts and Updos event at R-8 Studio on West Market Street.

Stylists from Bellos Hair Salon and Beautiful Intentions cut hair all day, offering low-cost styles for kids. Free, clear bookbags, supplies, and even self-care kits were distributed.

Gunman dead after hours long standoff in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A police standoff in Luzerne County that lasted multiple hours impacted an area hospital and ended with the gunman dead.

"In all my years of living down in this neighborhood, I've never seen anything quite like this," one neighbor told 28/22 News.

"Something like this, I've never seen anything like it," Wilkes-Barre resident Jahkyi Jackson said.

What started as an attempt to serve a search warrant quickly turned into a standoff lasting multiple hours in the south side of Wilkes-Barre.
