Four arrested after trying to run from police on blighted property

DRUMS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Four people were arrested on a blighted property after police say they were wanted on various charges.

Butler Township Police stated the following four people were arrested on Wednesday afternoon, after an investigation was conducted at a blighted property:

John Recklitis, 54, Drums

Ryan Beritcho, 51, is currently homeless

Trista Brotzman, 21, Freeland

Kristopher Lindemuth, 57, is currently homeless

Man faces charges for impersonating Homeland Security

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Columbia County man faces charges for impersonating a Homeland Security officer.

Officers observed a vehicle with tinted windows, an antenna, a police interceptor logo, emergency lights, sirens, and a decal labeled "US Department of Homeland Security, CERT instructor."

Walmart in Wilkes-Barre Twp. closed due to water issue

WILKES-BARRE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police report that Walmart in Wilkes-Barre Township is temporarily closed due to a water issue.

Police say additional businesses in the area may be closed once the source of the leak has been found.

A representative from Pennsylvania American Water said the issue involves a service line connected to Walmart.

An estimated time for the store to reopen has not been announced.

Woman faces charges for fentanyl overdose death

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman has been charged in the drug overdose death of a Luzerne County woman that occurred in 2023.

42-year-old Martina Wheeler was found dead of an overdose in bed by police officers on September 6, 2023.

In their investigation, police found that Wheeler had messaged with a friend, 41-year-old Cassie Zambetti, on Facebook in the days leading up to her death. Messages obtained by police show the two discussing an exchange of money and coordinating a meeting on September 5.

Multi-vehicle crash slows traffic on I-81

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 has slowed traffic down Thursday morning.

The crash occurred on I-81 northbound between 1.2 miles south of Exit 168: Highland Park Boulevard/Wilkes-Barre, from mile markers 167.5 and 168.0

I-81 to experience rolling roadblocks for two days

Details on the crash are limited at this time.

PennDOT says traffic is anticipated to clear up around 12:30 p.m.

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT stated that there will be rolling roadblocks on Interstate 81 northbound in Luzerne County starting Thursday, August 28.

PennDOT says the roadblocks will be located between Exit 151 (Route 80 Junction) and Exit 155 (Dorrance), beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday and continuing until 6:00 a.m. on Friday.
