DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — First responders battled dangerous conditions after being called to multiple crashes across our region during the storm.
Some involved tractor-trailers that weren't supposed to be on the road during implemented speed and vehicle restrictions.
PennDOT is sounding the alarm about driver safety following Tuesday's tractor-trailer crashes on interstates in the snow. Tractor trailers were seen barreling down interstates across PennDOT District 4 on cameras inside the incident command center.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wilkes-Barre police confirm a 14-year-old girl was shot early Monday morning in the basement of a home on Maffett Street.
Police say several juveniles gained access to a gun and at some point, the gun was discharged, injuring a teenage girl.
The 14-year-old was transported to a hospital and is now at Geisinger Danville undergoing treatment.
28/22 News spoke with a neighbor who has several children and if she feels concerned about being so close to an incident such as this.

FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Snow has led to closures, delays, and travel trouble in Luzerne County on Tuesday.
The morning commute was a bit tricky, with snow-covered roadways and low visibility. In White Haven, a tractor-trailer crash shut down a portion of Interstate 80 East in Luzerne and Carbon counties.
I-81 closed due to tractor trailer rollover
First responders were called to that scene just before 6:00 a.m. The interstate should be open by 11:00 a.m. according to PennDOT.

WHITE HAVEN, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A crash shut down a portion of Interstate 80 East in Luzerne County Tuesday morning.
According to emergency officials, first responders were called to the scene of a crash near the White Haven exit on Interstate 80 East around 5:50 a.m. Tuesday.
Winter storm causes power outages for thousands
I-80 East was shut down between Exit 273 to Exit 277. PennDOT states they believe it should reopen around 11:00 a.m.
There is no word on what led to the crash, but there are no reported injuries at this time.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Luzerne County has named a new Acting Director and Acting Deputy of the Bureau of Elections.
Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo announced Emily Cook and Steve Hahn as Acting Director of the Bureau of Elections and Acting Deputy of Elections respectively.
Cook has been in the bureau since 2021 when she was brought on as an administrative assistant and eventually promoted to the Deputy of Elections under former Director Eryn Harvey in August 2023.

Kali, of the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department, is hoping to rank in the Hometown Foundation's Annual Hometown Heroes Grant giveaway, to help fund the department’s K9 unit.
Meet Kali, the one-year-old Dutch Shepherd, has been a part of the Wilkes-Barre Township K9 unit for almost three months.

The Hanover Township Police Department is investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred on February 11 around 6:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Carey Avenue at Burger King on the San Souci Parkway.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Residents of a Wilkes-Barre neighborhood say they are concerned about what they describe as "unusual activity" at a house in their neighborhood.
Wilkes-barre city officials shut down the house late last week and found people living in the house.
The property in question is located at 28 West South Street, several blocks from downtown Wilkes-Barre. The big question neighbors have is: "Is this house the center of illegal activity?"
