Coroner identifies woman dead after Pittston Township crash

PITTSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities confirmed with 28/22 News a woman is dead after a deadly car crash Saturday afternoon in Pittston Township.

Luzerne County officials told 28/22 News authorities were called at about 12:10 p.m. to the 700 block of South Township Boulevard in Pittston Township for a reported crash.

The Pittston Township Police Department headed the response to the incident.

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Luzerne County man has been arrested in connection with a fatal August 23 crash on Interstate 81, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Troopers say an arrest warrant was prepared by PSP charging 30-year-old Zackery Thiede Laiuvara, of Nanticoke, with a felony charge of Homicide by Motor Vehicle While DUI and misdemeanor charges of DUI General Impairment and False Reports to Law Enforcement Authorities.

PennDOT highlights reopening of three major bridges

LUZERNE, SUSQUEHANNA, AND WAYNE COUNTIES (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll made a stop in Sweet Valley today, highlighting the reopening of three bridges ahead of schedule.

Secretary Carroll's visit focused on improvements made in Luzerne, Susquehanna and Wayne counties after extensive rainfall and flooding in northeastern Pennsylvania in mid-July.

Drug, gun crimes get Luzerne County man 10+ years

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for drug and firearm offences he committed in 2024.

According to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice, in June of 2024, 32-year-old Justis Shea, of Glen Lyon, intended to distribute fentanyl and K2, a synthetic cannabinoid, out of a hotel room in Luzerne County.

The release states that Shea also admitted to possessing a stolen rifle while being a felon.

Motorcyclist killed in deadly River Street crash

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash that closed part of North River Street in Plains Township on Friday.

A Jeep and a motorcycle collided on Friday near the Burger King on North River Street in Plains Township.

Four arrested after trying to run from police on blighted property

The driver of the motorcycle has been transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police had closed part of North River Street from the Burger King at Hancock Street to Carey Street.
