Horror Hall prepares to open for 2024 season

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One of the scariest Halloween attractions in northeastern Pennsylvania will open for the season this Friday.

Horror Hall in Plymouth Township is preparing to send a chill down your spine this Halloween season by bringing more scares and haunted attractions to its haunted house.

For 40 years, Horror Hall has been the area's biggest and longest-running all-indoor attraction.

A portion of the proceeds raised go to local veterans.

Drug raid arrests three, over 1,000 bags of fentanyl seized

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A two-month-long investigation resulted in three arrests and various amounts of drugs seized in Kingston, police stated.

According to the Kingston Police Department, on Wednesday, September 25, drug detectives executed several search warrants that resulted in the arrest of the following men;

Akilees Hobson, 26

Wendell Keith Freeman, 30

Armand Hobson, 27

Kingston Police Department

The raid was the result of a two-month-long drug trafficking investigation.

Teen charged with killing passenger in car during crash

UNION TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police say a 19-year-old man is facing charges after a crash killed the passenger in his car.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Tyler Mizell, 19, of Hanover Township, is charged with homicide by motor vehicle and DUI after a deadly crash occurred on June 22.

Police say the crash happened in Union Township and it was around 4:40 a.m. when troopers were called to the scene. The driver was later confirmed to be Mizell and the passenger in the car, 19-year-old Kaycee Kreitzer, was found dead in the wooded area.

Shooting investigation after man sent to hospital

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are investigating a shooting in Hazleton Tuesday afternoon that sent a man to the hospital.

According to the Hazleton City Police Department, on September 24 around 4:45 p.m., officers were notified by the Raven Gunshot Detection System that shots were fired in the area of Alter Street and 17th Street.

Once on the scene, officers found numerous shell casings along 17th Street, and a parked car nearby had bullet holes.

Search for person of interest in Wilkes-Barre homicide

New information in Wilkes-Barre ballot drop box controversy

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A controversy regarding a decision not to use ballot drop boxes in Luzerne County for the November election is taking yet another turn.

County Manager Romilda Crocamo, who made the decision citing safety and security concerns, is now asking the State Attorney General to investigate her decision.

All of this comes after critics of her decision, also requested the attorney general, to investigate that decision.

Search for person of interest in Wilkes-Barre homicide

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they are searching for a person of interest in a homicide investigation in Wilkes-Barre.

According to the Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce, investigators are searching for the man pictured below who they say is a person of interest in a homicide shooting on Northampton Street in Wilkes-Barre.

AG: Head of Luzerne County meth trafficking ring found guilty

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The attorney general announced the main supplier of a Luzerne County-based drug trafficking organization was found guilty by a jury.

According to Attorney General Michelle Henry after a week-long trial, the jury found 26-year-old Stanley Sabatel guilty of multiple drug charges.

After a joint investigation between multiple agencies, officials said Sabatel was discovered to be a supplier for mid-to upper-level street dealers of methamphetamine.

18-year-old faces child sexual abuse charges

EXETER, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A tip led to the arrest of an 18-year-old man possessing child sexual abuse material, police stated.

According to the criminal complaint, officials received a CyberTip from an electronic service provider Google that suspected child abuse material.

Investigators have charged 18-year-old Keifer Colin Neil with sexual abuse of children and criminal use of a communication facility.

Former President Carter to celebrate 100th birthday

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News is looking back at the life of a former president who is approaching the century mark, and how a local historian has a tie to our country’s longest-living president, Jimmy Carter.

On October 1, 1924, the 39th president of the United States was born.

“He made history on the first day of his life, the first day he was born. He’s the first president to be born in a hospital,” said Larry Cook, Presidential Historian

Recognizing college athletes in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local college baseball team and several area athletes were honored for their talents in high school and college sports.

Dozens gathered at the Luzerne County Court House to recognize the Misericordia Baseball Team, and two Wyoming Area grads football players Dominic Deluca and track and field star Marc Minichello.

In June, the Misericordia Cougars took home the hardware in the NCAA Division III Misericordia Cougars College Baseball World Series, beating Wisconsin Whitewater 10-5.
