JENKINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Residents of a Luzerne County neighborhood say they are very concerned about a strong chemical odor coming into their homes from the sewer system.
The problem surfaced several months ago in Jenkins Township, just north of Wilkes-Barre.

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Work planned on a heavily traveled bridge that connects two Luzerne County communities is expected to cause traffic delays starting on Monday.
The Pittston City Police Department posted a traffic advisory on Thursday, alerting drivers about construction plans for the Specialist Dale J. Kridlo Memorial Bridge that connects West Pittston to Pittston City.

The span connects Wyoming Avenue (Route 11) on the west side of the Susquehanna River to North Main Street on the east side.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Lackawanna County is mailing out new property assessments for the first time in more than 50 years.
About 50,000 property owners will receive reassessments this Friday, and another 50,000 next week.
Officials stress these are not tax bills, they will help set 2026 tax rates.

ASHLEY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A death investigation is now underway after police say a three-month-old baby has died in Luzerne County.
Officers say they were called to a home near Wyoming and Maxwell streets in Ashley Wednesday evening.

It is not yet known how the baby died or if the death is suspicious, but Pennsylvania State Police Wilkes-Barre is handling the investigation.

DIMOCK TOWNSHIP, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new public water system is in the works in Susquehanna County after years of water contamination concerns.
Pennsylvania American Water says it has completed drilling for two test wells as potential drinking water sources in Dimock.
The project is funded by a 2022 plea agreement with Coterra Energy.

(WBRE/WYOU) — Cases of measles are on the rise across the country, with more than 200 reported in 12 states so far this year, including one right here in Pennsylvania.
Health officials tell 28/22 News they're paying close attention to measles symptoms, as many haven't encountered a case since the vaccine became widely available, noting that most cases across the US involve unvaccinated individuals.
Measles, a highly contagious disease, was once thought to be nearly eliminated in the US in 2000.

A newly formed election task force is taking a look at issues and problems that are faced by virtually every county in Pennsylvania and how they might be resolved.
The election task force is comprised of 14 citizens who volunteered to take a close look at the election system and process in Luzerne County and beyond, then make recommendations for improvements to that process to state lawmakers..
