Frustrated Horton Street residents meet with Wilkes-Barre mayor

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's been a month since one of two giant sinkholes opened up on the same street in Wilkes-Barre. People who live there are frustrated by the inconvenience it's caused.

On Monday, they got some clarity on when their lives may return to normal.

The idea was to gather everyone involved in fixing the sinkhole, gas and water companies, the city's engineer, and the mayor, and answer questions from neighbors about their disruptive road closure.

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (WPIX) – Five people were shot, four fatally – including an off-duty NYPD officer – when a man carrying a long gun opened fire in a Manhattan skyscraper in Midtown Monday evening, officials said.

The officer who was killed was Didarul Islam, 36, an immigrant from Bangladesh who had served as a police officer in New York City for 3 1/2 years.

“He died as he lived. A hero,” police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference. He was married with two young boys, and his wife is pregnant with their third child, she said.

Monroe County announces property reassessment project

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A heads up for Monroe County residents: Monroe County officials announced on Monday they will be launching a county-wide property assessment.

In a release, Monroe County officials announced they have partnered with Tyler Technologies to perform a county-wide property assessment.

The initiative comes after the county's last reassessment carried out in 2020, the release explained.

Two 'Here's to You, Kid!' recipients receive scholarships

"So my purpose of the project was to record every single name, date of birth, date of death," explained Aaron Girvan.
