What smells on River Street in Wilkes-Barre?

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — What's that awful smell? That's the question many people who live and travel through one part of Wilkes-Barre have been asking in recent months.

The sewage odors have been noticeable, and at times, overwhelming near the Luzerne County Courthouse and several surrounding blocks.

28/22 News tracked it down. Those odors are connected to a major upgrade of a sewer pipeline that runs near the Susquehanna River and steps are being taken by the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority (WVSA) to reduce those odors.

Man accused of starting multiple fires throughout Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police arrested a man who they say started multiple fires throughout Williamsport while riding his bike.

On November 4 and 5, officers and firefighters were called to numerous intentionally set fires in the 1300 block of Park Avenue, the 1000 block of Vine Avenue, the 1300 block of Scott Street, and the 100 Block of Third Street.

Through further investigation, officers obtained surveillance video of the suspect riding his bike at several fire scenes.

Man dies after barn fire in Wayne County

DAMASCUS TWP., WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The coroner reports a man has died after suffering injuries from a barn fire in Wayne County.

According to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office, on Saturday, November 16 around 4:30 p.m., a fire broke out at a barn in the 700 block of Butternut Flats in Damascus Township.

Investigators say 77-year-old Michael Kane suffered 49% of total body burns due to the fire. He was pronounced dead on Sunday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.

CHESTNUT HILL TWP., MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police report multiple marijuana plants were seized from a home after two men allegedly forced a teen to take THC edibles.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, on October 14 troopers were called to St. Luke's Hospital for a 16-year-old who had been forced to consume THC edibles and was suffering a medical emergency.
