MIFFLINBURG — Borough officials are looking to repair a small sinkhole that opened up on Forest Hill Road near the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail in Mifflinburg.
EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — State police announced DUI checkpoints will be placed across various roadways in Pennsylvania.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols aim to deter drinking and driving. Police say they are operating with a “zero-tolerance enforcement policy.”
Police say checkpoints and roving patrols will be placed on roadways until September 30 experiencing high rates of DUI-related traffic violations and DUI-related crashes.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A stadium renovation project leads to lead contamination, and a home field being closed for the season for students at one Luzerne County school district.
While it's not the season they expected, the school's student-athletes are staying positive.
Hanover Area School District Superintendent Nathan Barrett says when crews were removing paint from the stadium bleachers as a part of the 100-year celebration project, lead paint particles were accidentally spread to the locker room and some storage areas.
Penn State removed nearly three dozen racks containing its independent student-produced newspaper from on-campus this week because politics-related ads on the racks violated school policy. The Daily Collegian reports they were not notified of the racks' removal Wednesday night and were not told where they are being stored. The newspaper said there were about 35 racks overall inside buildings on campus, with three running an ad for Vice President Kamala Harris and six running voter registration ads. The other racks did not have posters.

LONDONDERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM)-- The Constellation Energy Corporation announced its plan to restart the Unit 1 nuclear reactor at Three Mile Island as part of a purchase agreement with Microsoft.
Five years ago today, TMI shut down Unit 1, located near Harrisburg on the Susquehanna River, for economic reasons. The Unit 1 reactor is located adjacent to TMI Unit 2, which shut down in 1979 after a historic partial meltdown caused by a combination of human and mechanical errors.
HAZLE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police report they are investigating a fraud where over $1,400 worth of McDonald's orders were bought with an expired credit card.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were called to the 400 block of Hunter Highway in Butler Township for an issue with mobile app orders.

Police say an unidentified suspect used an expired credit card to make numerous mobile orders on the McDonalds App.
The transactions accumulated to around $1,416.99 in unpaid orders.
LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a project that will connect Route 115/309 Southbound to Interstate 81 Southbound.
According to PennDOT, the project will replace three existing bridges within the I-81 and Route 115 interchange, realign three Route 115/309 Southbound and Route 8015 ramps, as well as construction of a new ramp that will connect Route 115/309 Northbound to I-81 Southbound.

DENNISON TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police report a driver was killed after crashing and overturning his car on Interstate 80 in Luzerne County.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, on September 12 around 5:40 a.m., a crash occurred on I-80 West in Dennison Township.
Police said a car driven by Donald Hooper, 67, of Shamokin, left the roadway for unknown reasons, hit a guide rail, and crossed over both westbound lanes.

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police say they continue to investigate a 1983 cold case where a newborn was found dead inside a garbage bag along the roadway.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the investigation continues into the homicide of an identified newborn girl found in Northumberland County.
Police say the gruesome discovery happened on July 18, 1983, when two Snydertown residents were walking alongside State Route 4005. A newborn girl was found "discarded along the roadway in multiple bags," PSP reported.
