Hazleton bursts with color in first-ever Tulip Day

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Downtown Hazleton is bursting with a sea of color as community spirit blooms for its first-ever Tulip Day. The event on Sunday afternoon at Can Do Community Park featured a stunning display of 50,000 blooming tulips.

All guests got to enjoy music, food trucks, and a chance to pick 10 tulips for free.

"People can get out, get downtown, pick some tulips, it's Spring. Tulips ARE spring. It's what Spring's all about," said Alex Van Hoekelen, Organizer from Van Hoekelen Greenhouses.

Work on Route 315 set to resume in Pittston Township

PITTSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Work on Route 315 in the Pittston area is set to resume on Monday after a weather delay.

It will happen on the southbound side in the right-hand lane between the Pilot Travel Center and Oak Street.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In Scranton, part of Green Ridge Street will be closed for several days starting on Monday.

Pennsylvania American Water (PAW) has some work to do on that road between Albright Avenue and Ross Street.

PennDOT announces lane restrictions on I-81 in Susquehanna County

The closure will last through Friday, followed by lane restrictions the week after that.

The water company recommends drivers avoid that area and take a detour in that part of the Electric City.

Anglers across PA celebrate start of Trout Season

DRUMS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Rain or shine, anglers across Pennsylvania are celebrating the start of Trout Season this weekend.

The season officially opened saturday morning, and countless fishermen are already casting lines in streams and lakes statewide.

This year, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission stocked more than 3,000,000 adult trout, including 72,000 trophy-sized fish.

28/22 News previously reported in 2023 of a body found in Liberty Township, Montour County, later identified as 19-year-old Kevin Cagle from the Williamsport Area.

Thousands line up for Annual Scranton Half Marathon

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Despite the rainy weather, thousands of people lined up in Scranton Sunday morning to tackle the 12th Annual Scranton Half Marathon.

What started as a cold, rainy day ended up being a perfect day for a run.

Nearly 2,000 people from 25 US States and six different countries laced up their running shoes and set off on the 13.1-mile route through the heart of the Electric City.

Runners 28/22 News spoke with say the course is a challenging one, but that didn't stop them from achieving some personal records.
