Scranton's Brian P. Kelly Memorial Race

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Before the parade, several traditions in the city of Scranton took place.

Honoring the struggles and sacrifices of Saint Patrick, Holy Mass led by Bishop Bambera was held inside St. Peter's Cathedral.

After the service people participated in the Brian P. Kelly Memorial two-mile foot race, Lackawanna County's oldest footrace.

The race ran entirely on the parade route and began at the Scranton Cultural Center.

Brian P. Kelly was the 2004 St. Patrick's Parade Association president who died from cancer that same year.

One dead after car crash in Carbon County

LANSFORD BOROUGH, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One person is dead after a single-car crash in Carbon County.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), a single-car crash occurred Saturday morning in Lansford Borough.

PSP states the passenger of the vehicle died after a car that was traveling north on State Route 209 veered off the road onto the shoulder and struck a tree continuing along the shoulder before striking the guard rail end, overturning the vehicle.

Check smoke alarms before you 'spring forward'

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The American Red Cross encourages everyone to test their smoke alarms as they turn their clocks forward to make sure the devices are working.

With daylight saving time beginning Sunday night, you'll lose that hour of sleep as we gain an extra hour of daylight in the evening.

American Red Cross officials remind us to change batteries in our smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors as we "spring" forward.

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Daylight saving time begins at 2:00 a.m. meaning the clocks spring forward an hour.

While most of us have a couple of clocks to reset, a Luzerne County business in the back mountain has a couple hundred!

The change allows for more daylight in the evenings from mid-March to early November.

The task of springing ahead started early at Ye Olde Clock and Gift Shoppe in Dallas.

Staff members are busy changing hundreds of clocks by hand a job they've had twice a year since 1968.

Saint Patrick's Day parade kicks off

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One of the biggest annual events took place Saturday morning in the Electric City and thousands of people showed up to celebrate and show their Irish pride.

Thousands of people came out and painted the city of Scranton green on Saturday for the annual Saint Patrick Parade.
