BEAR CREEK TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A traffic alert for drivers in Luzerne County, the bridge on Laurel Run Road that crosses the Turnpike in Bear Creek is closed for renovations.
Making a U-turn on Laurel Run Road was a common sight Monday morning as crews brought out road-closed signs to renovate the bridge over the turnpike.
While some drivers knew about it ahead of time, others like motorist Brianna Salas were surprised when getting turned around.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — U.S. Congressman Matt Cartwright announced on Monday that Scranton Police Detective Kyle Gilmartin will be his guest at the 2024 State of the Union Address.
Detective Gilmartin is currently recovering in a rehab facility near Philadelphia after he was shot twice in the head in January when he and a fellow officers were ambushed in a gang-related shooting.

KIDDER TOWNSHIP, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WOU) — One person has been flown to an area hospital after a crash that caused the vehicle to catch fire on Monday.
Officials on scene say an SUV going east on Route 940, left the roadway and crashed into trees and a ditch.
Pittston City traffic advisory for St. Patrick’s Parade
First responders confirmed that the person in the vehicle was trapped in the car as it ignited in flames.
The person in the vehicle was flown to an area medical center for evaluation. There is currently no word on the extent of any injuries.

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pittston City Police Department is reminding all travelers that roads in downtown Pittston will be closed this weekend for the St. Patrick's Parade.

According to police, on Saturday, March 2, all roadways leading into Pittston City including all access to the downtown will be closed at 10:00 a.m. for the 2024 Pittston St. Patrick's Parade and the Leprechaun Loop 5K Race.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Christians from a Lackawanna County college made a global movement Sunday, walking in prayer and solidarity for those in Gaza.
The walk is part of a worldwide Ceasefire Pilgrimage.
Dozens earlier Sunday walked through the Electric City chanting and waving flags, raising awareness and promoting peace in the Middle East.
"People today were really interested in expressing their solidarity for the people of Gaza," said University Of Scranton Professor Of Theology Will Cohen.
