SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Scranton Police Detective, who was critically injured in a January shooting, is now suing the parents of his accused shooter.
Detective Kyle Gilmartin was shot twice in the head, and is now seeking $100,000 in damages.
The lawsuit claims that despite knowing their son's violent tendencies, Alex and Crystal Eastman left the firearm they own unsupervised and unsecured.

PINE GROVE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police say a registered sex offender used Snapchat to track down a teenage girl, enter her home, and touch her while she was sleeping.
State police stated back on October 26, 2023, a 13-year-old girl and her parents arrived at the Schuylkill Haven police barracks to report a sexual assault that had taken place the night before in Pine Grove.

TOBYHANNA, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A home with children living inside was found in deplorable conditions during a fugitive arrest, according to police.
Police report while arresting a fugitive Jewels Zachary Jenkins, 23, of Tobyhanna had three firearms that were found all in nonsecure areas of a house in the 4000 block of Burnside Drive.
Inside the home, police describe "deplorable" conditions that include moldy food, trash, and dog and cat feces throughout the residence, as stated in the affidavit.

Man sentenced for theft from youth sports organization
According to an affidavit from police, Maurice Gillespie, 32, was visibly intoxicated and resisted arrest at New York Fried Chicken in Hazleton.
Police say Gillespie attempted to swing at two employees, including the owner of the establishment, before grabbing the tip jar off the counter and exiting the business.

MIDDLEBURG, SNYDER COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Snyder County man has pleaded guilty to stealing over $40,000 from the Midd-West Youth Football and Cheer Association.
Randy Kline, 48, stole over $40,000 spanning two years while a member of the Association according to the District Attorney's Office.
Man wanted for allegedly intimidating a witness
According to a release, Kline was in charge of equipment purchases for the student-athletes at Midd-West and utilized the association's bank account and debit card for personal use, and to support his gambling addiction.
