Plymouth home collapses due to aging

PLYMOUTH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A home collapsed in Plymouth Thursday morning.

Officials say they were called to Gould Street.

Three arrested for alleged burglaries in abandoned Luzerne County home

When they arrived they found an old, vacant home. No one was inside at the time of the collapse and no nearby homes were damaged.

Crews are now being called in to demolish the old house.

Cold temperatures lead to Code Blue in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wilkes-Barre Mayor George Brown announced a Code Blue will be in place on Sunday, March 10.

On Thursday, Mayor Brown said in a release the City of Wilkes-Barre will have a Code Blue in place in anticipation of severe cold temperatures on March 10.

The Code Blue Emergency Shelter can be found at the Keystone Mission Innovation Center at 90 East Union Street in Wilkes-Barre, according to the release.

Eight arrested for alleged retail theft at Walmart

HAZLE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) —   State police report that eight people were arrested after being accused of retail thefts at a Walmart in Luzerne County.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers responded to Walmart in Hazle Township for separate retail theft incidents throughout February and March.

On February 24 around 11:00 p.m., troopers were called for a reported retail theft. Police say a 50-year-old woman from Mount Carmel entered Walmart and swapped multiple price tags with lower value onto higher valued items.

This visit was extra special for Amelia because she attended St. Nicholas St. Mary's school from kindergarten through eighth grade and because Mrs. Reynolds was one of her pre-K teachers!

41 charged with public assistance fraud in PA

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The Office of State Inspector General (OSIG) stated in January that 41 people have been charged with public assistance fraud.

According to OSIG, 41 people have been charged with a felony for public assistance fraud.

OSIG says the restitution owned to the Commonwealth totals $202,973 and the defendants will be temporarily disqualified from receiving public benefits within the programs they allegedly defrauded.

Man accused of threats against school

LOYALSOCK TWP., LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police are charging a man after they say he made threats against a school in Pennsylvania.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, on March 6 around 8:45 a.m., troopers were called for a man making threatening gestures of firing a gun on school grounds, while holding a dark object in his hand.
