Potential Flooding Hazard in Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg Police Department is notifying all residents of a potential flooding hazard. Heavy rain is expected over the next 18 hours along with warm temperatures that will bring a large amount of water into Fishing Creek and the Susquehanna River. As of 11:00 AM this date the river is expected to crest at 7:00 PM Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 26.4 feet (7 feet above flood stage).

Detour on Lightstreet Road in Bloomsburg

A three-week detour will go into effect at approximately 7 a.m. next Monday, April 29, on Route 487 (Lightstreet Road) in the Town of Bloomsburg. A contractor will construct a pedestrian bridge over the street at Bloomsburg University.

The detour route will be Routes 11/487 (East Street) and Central Road.

Work is expected to be completed and the detour lifted by May 18.

Speed Limits Reduced on Several Roads in North Central PA Region

Due to current and predicted weather conditions, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is reducing speed limits on several roadways in the PennDOT District 3 region, which includes Bradford, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga and Union counties.

Speed limits have been lowered to 45 miles per hour on the following roads:

  • Interstate 80, and Interstate 180
  • Route 11, Route 15, and Route 220

PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.

Streets Closed in Berwick Due to Damaged Building

Motorists in Columbia County are advised Route 11 (Second Street) and Route 1025 (Market Street) in Berwick Borough are closed at the intersection due to a building being severely damaged.

Because the building is in danger of collapsing the streets must be closed.

A detour for Second Street is Pine Street to Third Street, to Oak Street to Second Street.

Market Street is closed between Front Street and Third Street. The detour for Market Street is Route 11 north to Pine Street to Third Street to Market Street.
