Small plane crashes near Pennsylvania airport, sends smoke billowing

MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — A small plane carrying five people crashed near a southern Pennsylvania airport Sunday afternoon, leaving a fiery wreck in a parking lot, authorities have confirmed.

First responders were called to the crash near the Lancaster Airport shortly after 3 p.m., according to an official with the Manheim Township Police Department.

The crashed plane was found in the parking area of Brethren Village, a retirement community just south of the airport. Nexstar's WHTM reported seeing charred wreckage of the airplane and several cars at the scene.

MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) -- First responders are at the scene of a reported plane crash near the Lancaster Airport at this hour.

Smoke could be seen from several miles away.

The Federal Aviation Administration tells abc27 News a Beechcraft Bonanza crashed around 3 p.m.

Five people were aboard, the FAA said.

Route 501 is closed between Oregon Pike and Millport Road, a PennDOT spokesperson said, due to the crash.

Governor Josh Shapiro said the Pennsylvania State Police is assisting local first responders.

Multiple crews battle Luzerne County brush fire

LEHMAN TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Several acres of land are burned after a couple of brush fires in Luzerne County. One of them happened in the Back Mountain.

The Luzerne County Communications Center says crews were called to Golf Course Drive around 3:00 p.m. for a brush fire.

Six fire companies were working to contain the flames, and the Back Mountain Regional Fire Department was leading the response.

Police investigating report of shots fired

Another brush fire was reported in the Dorrance area.

Two 'Crips' arrested after shots fired in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Scranton Police have arrested two males in connection with shots fired in Scranton on March 8.

Scranton Police Department, with assistance from the US Marshals Service and the Lackawanna District Attorney' Office has arrested 18-year-old Shamell Fearon and 17-year-old Thomas Richardson in connection with the gunfire that struck a house and put at least 15 people in danger inside the house.

Scranton Police Department says both are members of the "Crips" Street Gang, and being charged as adults.
