Celebrating Cinco De Mayo in Wilkes-Barre Township

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Dozens of people came to celebrate Cinco De Mayo at El Rey Azteca in Wilkes-Barre Township Monday evening.

The restaurant features dozens of authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

New to the celebration this year is a six foot tall robot that sprayed confetti while dancing on stilts along with aztec dancers.

Owners say the celebration has been growing each year.

Concerns remain on ‘forever chemicals’ found in private well water

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An update on contaminated water in Columbia County: 28/22 News first reported about "Forever Chemicals" detected in private well water in March.

The water has contained dangerous levels of PFAS for a long period of time and residents in the area are still waiting for action to be taken.

In March, nearly half of the private wells the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) sampled between Bloomsburg and Berwick were detected for high levels of pfas.

Chestnuthill Township man dead after crash

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities say a 52-year-old man is dead after a crash in Monroe County on Monday.

In a press release, Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac says they were called to a two-car crash on Monday on Route 715 in Jackson Township.

Shortly after 4:15 p.m., the coroner pronounced a 52-year-old man from Chestnuthill Township dead on the scene.

NWS issues Flash Flood Warning for Bradford County

BRADFORD COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The National Weather Service (NWS) announced on Monday that Bradford County is under a Flash Flood Warning.

The NWS announced shortly before 7:30 p.m. that the warning is in place for Bradford County until 10:30 p.m. after Doppler radar indicated heavy rain in the area.

Officials say between one and one and a half inches of rain have already fallen.

The NWS warns residents to take proper precautions when encountering an area experiencing flash flooding by turning around and to not drown.
