Volunteers restoring wildlife habitat, cleaning up dumped tires

GLEN LYON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A group of volunteers in Luzerne County is restoring a local wildlife habitat by cleaning up illegally dumped tires.

About 30 volunteers gathered on Sunday at State Gamelands in Glen Lyon, tackling piles of old tires left behind an area that was once the scene of illegal dumping.

Backcountry hunters and anglers organized the event with help from the PA Game Commission.

The goal is to restore critical habitat for wildlife and outdoor recreation.

In just two weekends, it's the Pocono Irish-American Club (PIAC) Saint Patrick's Parade.

The line of march will make its way from Stroudsburg High School to the East Stroudsburg Municipal Building on Crystal Street.

The PIAC Saint Patrick's Parade steps off Sunday afternoon, March 23, at 1:15 p.m. in the heart of Monroe County.

POTTSVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The parade celebrations continue this month in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Next up is the 49th Pottsville Saint Patrick's Parade.

2025 Saint Patrick’s Parades happening in NEPA

It's set to go next Saturday, March 15, at 12:00 p.m.

It will wind its way from Market and 12th Streets to the Humane/Phoenix Fire Company on Third Street.

Here's hoping for good weather for the big parade in the heart of Schuylkill County.

Multiple crews battle Luzerne County brush fire

LEHMAN TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Several acres of land are burned after a couple of brush fires in Luzerne County. One of them happened in the Back Mountain.

The Luzerne County Communications Center says crews were called to Golf Course Drive around 3:00 p.m. for a brush fire.

Six fire companies were working to contain the flames, and the Back Mountain Regional Fire Department was leading the response.

Police investigating report of shots fired

Another brush fire was reported in the Dorrance area.

Two 'Crips' arrested after shots fired in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Scranton Police have arrested two males in connection with shots fired in Scranton on March 8.

Scranton Police Department, with assistance from the US Marshals Service and the Lackawanna District Attorney' Office has arrested 18-year-old Shamell Fearon and 17-year-old Thomas Richardson in connection with the gunfire that struck a house and put at least 15 people in danger inside the house.

Scranton Police Department says both are members of the "Crips" Street Gang, and being charged as adults.
