1 sent to hospital after Plains Township water rescue

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A water rescue at a spot that is off-limits to swimmers. Fire crews were called Sunday evening to Seven Tubs Recreation Area in Plains Township.

Luzerne County Communication Center confirms one person was removed from the site and taken to a nearby hospital.

COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police arrested a man on Sunday in the death of his wife, Katlyn Harp.

The arrest follows days of an intense police investigation in Columbia County.

Troopers explain that 37-year-old Vincent Lloyd Harp from Bloomsburg was taken into custody without incident and is facing criminal homicide and related charges in connection with the death of his wife, 33-year-old Katlyn Harp.

Runners tackle Montage Mountain slopes in Black Diamond Mainline 5K

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Roughly 300 runners tackled a course at a location best known for skiing. They headed to the slopes of Montage Mountain on Sunday to take part in the Black Diamond Mainline 5K.

Montage Mountain and Scranton Running Company teamed up for the event.

Organizers say this 5K is known to test runners' grit, determination, and endurance.

Ham radio operators have 'Field Day' in Lackawanna County

GREENFIELD TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some local ham radio operators had themselves a Field Day in Lackawanna County. The Windmill Amateur Radio Club took part in the American Radio Relay League's Field Day Weekend.

Members gathered at Merli-Sarnoski Park Soccer Field in Greenfield Township both Saturday and Sunday.

They spent hours on the mic communicating with other amateur ham radio operators in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada.

WEST PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It was a moment of history and honor in West Pittston as dozens gathered to remember the first local lives lost in the Revolutionary War.

The First to Fall Ceremony was held Sunday afternoon at Jenkins-Harding Cemetery.

It's only a few miles from where Patriot Benjamin Harding and other farmers were killed in 1778 while tending crops, sparking the Wyoming Massacre just days later.

This year marks the fourth time the West Pittston Historical Society has held the event.

Finding cats forever homes in Hazleton

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local pet groomer is stepping up to help find more cats a forever home. All Paws Salon in Hazleton hosted an Adopt-A-Cat event on Sunday at their South Church Street location.

Visitors could learn about adopting a cat, or even volunteering to provide a foster home for one before a pet finds a loving home.

Mosquito spraying operation coming to Luzerne County communities

The Luzerne Conservation District uses a spray designed to provide quick knockdown and effective control of adult mosquitoes.

State troopers searching for missing woman in Susquehanna County

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police need your help to track down a missing Susquehanna County woman. They are looking for 45-year-old Nicole Herman.

She was last seen late Wednesday night at her Liberty Township home.

Celebrating 2 community members at Kingston ribbon cutting

Troopers say she is mentally unstable and shows signs of paranoia and delusions.

They also say since she does not have a means of transportation, she may be on foot or with an unknown person.
