Two DPW workers honored after saving man's life

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In Lackawanna County, two DPW workers were honored Monday night after saving a man's life earlier in October.

Local lawmakers came together to recognize Patrick Judge and Christopher Rinaldi, two DPW employees who saved a man experiencing a mental health crisis on the Reeves Street Bridge on October 2.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out.

Kings College officials announced on Tuesday transfer students are now eligible for the King's College Luzerne and Lackawanna Education Opportunity Program.

DORRANCE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's time for our Halloween House of the night! On Tuesday, 28/22 News was in Dorrance Township, Luzerne County, where a local display is helping raise thousands of dollars for breast cancer research.

"We just love Halloween, as you can tell, so, we just thought it would be fun to raise some money for the Think Pink Foundation, which helps women with cancer in Luzerne County," Kim Davis from Dorrance Township said.

West Pittston woman facing vacation fraud charges

ARCHBALD, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A West Pittston woman is facing theft and felony fraud charges for allegedly promising vacations and keeping the money.

South Abington Township and Archbald Borough police say 69-year-old Eileen Miner took around $42,000 from victims through her travel company, Thompson Tours.

Two groups of hopeful travelers were allegedly defrauded of thousands of dollars.

This after booking through what they thought was a reputable travel company, Thompson Tours. The business is located in a plaza on Birney Avenue in Moosic.

Two arrested after allegedly trespassing at Scranton high school

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Scranton Police Department says two people were arrested Tuesday night after allegedly trespassing at a Scranton high school.

Police say Jaelah Kamille Royce and Jean Almonte Rosario, both 18 years old, were arrested for criminal trespass that happened at around 12:30 p.m. at West Scranton High School.

Royce and Almonte Rosario were former students of the school. They gained access Tuesday afternoon by blending in with the student population, police say.

POLK TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local veterans shelter in Monroe County is answering the call to help victims of Hurricane Helene.

Residents and supporters of VALOR Clinic gathered supplies and other necessities at Paul's House to help people in North Carolina.

"What we are looking for is the items to help give them heat and the cooking ability. Anything that has to do with wood, fire, splitters," House Manager of Paul's House Erin Kelly said.
