Police investigating stabbing in Luzerne County

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A heavy police presence was spotted in Nanticoke after a reported stabbing Saturday night.

In a release, Nanticoke Police Department say they were called to a residence on the 300 block of Kosciuszko Street just after 10:00 p.m. for a reported stabbing.

Man sent to hospital, police investigating after shooting near supermarket

Officials say say this stemmed from an argument between two siblings that turned physical.

Both people were transported to local hospitals with injuries.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The City of Scranton wasn't just bleeding green because of Saint Patrick's Day festivities.

It was also to show support for a special Super Bowl champion that was in attendance on Saturday.

"Go Birds" isn't usually a chant you would hear at the Scranton Saint Patrick's Parade, but in this year's, there was a lot of it.

The Eagles' Defensive Coordinator, Vic Fangio, came to town.

"It's great to be back here. I always remember this being a big day in Scranton," Fangio said.

Poconos ski resort celebrates end of winter with beach party, pond skim

KIDDER TOWNSHIP CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A ski resort in the Poconos is celebrating the end of winter in a unique way.

Big Boulder in Lake Harmony held its Annual Beach Party and Pond Skim on Saturday.

Hundreds of participants are there to enjoy cornhole tournaments, a rail jam, scavenger hunt, and more.

Organizers say it's a fun way to send off another great winter on the slopes of Jack Frost Big Boulder.

This is the last major event of the season.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Keep your green attire handy because the Irish celebrations will continue on Sunday as Wilkes-Barre's 45th Saint Patrick's Parade hits the streets.

More than 100 groups and more than 1,500 participants walked and rode in last year's parade.

This year's parade steps off on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Several streets in Downtown Wilkes-Barre will close starting at 12:00 p.m.

Pews filled for Annual Saint Patrick's Parade Day Mass in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Leading up to the parade, the pews were full Saturday morning for the Annual Saint Patrick's Parade Day Mass at Saint Peter's Cathedral in Scranton.

Bishop Bambera led the mass, along with various priests from the Diocese of Scranton.

Local organizations also participated, including the Ancient Order of Hiberians, Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick, and the Saint Patrick's Parade Association of Lackawanna County.

Brian P. Kelly Memorial race took to Scranton parade route

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Before the parade stepped off Saturday afternoon, another longtime tradition was held in Downtown Scranton.

The Brian P. Kelly Memorial Two-Mile Foot Race took to the streets of Scranton, entirely along the parade route.

It's known as the oldest road race in the Scranton area.

The race is held every year in honor of Brian P. Kelly, the 2004 Saint Patrick's Parade Association President, who lost his battle with cancer that same year.

Celebrating the 63rd Scranton Saint Patrick's Parade

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One of Lackawanna County's most treasured Irish traditions celebrated its 63rd year on Saturday.

Festivities are still flowing in the Electric City Saturday night after the Saint Patrick's Parade took to the streets of Downtown Scranton.

The Saint Patrick's Parade may have wrapped up yet another year in the Electric City, but all the Irish heritage is still being celebrated throughout the night.

It's all part of many traditions the historic parade embodies.

Man sent to hospital, police investigating after shooting near supermarket

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Dozens of police and emergency crews taped off a crime scene, and a man was sent to the hospital after a shooting in Wilkes-Barre Saturday afternoon.

The Wilkes-Barre City Police Department says they were called to the area of Schiel's Family Market on Hanover Street at 2:10 p.m. for a reported aggravated assault stemming from an argument between one man and one woman.

When police arrived, they found the man on Hanover Street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
