PSP continues missing woman search at Columbia County home

HEMLOCK TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities say Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) were at the home of a missing woman in Columbia County Saturday.

The State Police confirm their Forensics Unit and other troopers searched the Harp home on Saturday as part of their ongoing missing person investigation.

They are trying to locate Katlyn Harp, a mother of five.

28/22 News was able to obtain video taken earlier Saturday at the Harp home located at 20 Fairview Drive in Hemlock Township, Columbia County.

Festival kicks off summer celebrations in Drums

DRUMS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Hundreds of people celebrated summer and filled Freedom Park in Drums Saturday afternoon.

The Butler Township Recreation Board hosted its Summer Kickoff Festival at the park located on Mill Mountain Road.

The event included 30-plus vendors featuring food, crafts, and clothing. Karaoke, a DJ, and live music packed the pavilion.

The summer kickoff event was a first of its kind for the township.

Touching trucks of many kinds in Luzerne County

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Trucks of many kinds took up space on Saturday at a Luzerne County Shopping Center. Fire trucks, a garbage truck, and a Humvee were on display for touching, looking, and exploring.

Long Live Playtime, an inclusive children's development facility located in the Gateway Shopping Center in Edwardsville, welcomed children and families to a Touch-a-Truck event.

It was to celebrate nearly a year in business.

Hoyt Library dedicated two new spaces, the Geraldine Ruddy Hourigan Courtyard and the Jim Haggerty Little Free Library.

The community gathered outside to tour the venue, take photos, and honor the legacy of two people who loved the library.

The road is still closed, and the area is now fenced in, surrounded by construction equipment.

Work is wrapped up for the day, and repairs are expected to take several days or possibly weeks.

Ashley Furniture says thanks to a giant generator, they've got their lights back on and their doors are open.

Part of Route 309 closed in Schuylkill County

They lost power after officials said the mall's central station suffered severe damage to its underground power lines, likely from a possible lightning strike, though that has not been confirmed.

Police investigating after dogs found dead in VFW

KINGSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County man is under investigation after two dogs were found dead inside a hot truck outside a local VFW.

Police say Jerry Rynkiewicz left his two golden retrievers in a parked truck while he was inside the Exeter VFW on Sunday.

With the dangerous heat that day, the dogs didn't survive.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities say a Scranton man has been apprehended after fleeing from police over several days.

On Saturday, the Scranton Police Department said they apprehended a wanted suspect, 24-year-old Eddie Brent from Scranton, after a brief foot pursuit on the 1700 block of North Keyser Avenue.

Police say Brent was wanted in relation to an incident involving the assault of a Scranton Police Officer.

PSP responds after tractor-trailer crash leaves 30K pounds of cheese on Route 309

KLINE TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) released details on a tractor-trailer crash that closed part of Route 309 and left thousands of pounds of cheese to be cleaned up on the highway.

According to state police, crews were called to a report of a tractor-trailer down an embankment just after 9:00 a.m. on Route 309.

Troopers say their investigation determined that a 31-year-old man from Nevada was driving a tractor-trailer South on Route 309 down the mountain along with a 41-year-old passenger from California.
