Dress for Success kicks off International Women's Day

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Dress for Success Luzerne county kicked off "International Women's Day" celebrations, one day early, in Kingston with their annual luncheon.

The honorable Stefanie Salavantis, the first female president judge in Luzerne County's 250 year history, was the guest of honor.

She was interviewed in a "Fireside Chat" hosted by our very own Rachel Malak.

At the JCC, guests enjoyed their meals, participated in the basket raffle, and bought "Women of Action" t shirts — all to support "Dress For Success".

Fish fry season has begun in NEPA

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Many people are enjoying non-meat options this first Friday of Lent.

For the next few weeks, dozens of churches and fire companies all across our area hold annual Lenten fish fries to help raise money.

During Lent, millions of faithful abstain from eating meat in preparation for Easter which is April 20.

Fatal crashes lead to new safety measures at intersection

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Efforts are underway to improve safety at a busy Luzerne County intersection that's been the site of numerous crashes in recent years.

The intersection in question is located at the boundary of Nanticoke and Newport Township.

Principal found not guilty of sexually assaulting student

There have been two deadly crashes at the intersection in the last year.

The most recent fatal crash occurred last week.
