A man led police on a six-mile chase in Luzerne County
BUTLER TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is facing charges after police say he led officers on a 6-mile high-speed chase.
Butler Township Police have charged 22-year-old Aven Moronta, of Hazleton, after they say he led officers on a nearly 6-mile chase Sunday evening.
According to police, an officer was patrolling near the intersection of S. Hunter Highway and Stronecroft Road around 10:40 p.m. when he saw an SUV driving erratically. The SUV passed the officer and continued to drive at a high speed, passing other vehicles.
PLAINS TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The ramp from State Route 115 Northbound to Interstate 81 Northbound in Plains Township is closed and will remain closed until November 2026.
According to PennDOT, the ramp closure is required to realign the existing ramp and to construct a new ramp that will directly connect State Route 115 Northbound to Interstate 81 Southbound.

Candles now sit outside the Mila Lounge in Wilkes-Barre after the homicide of 30-year-old Ayana Velardo. In a criminal complaint obtained, 35-year-old Natasha Dixon is accused of shooting Velardo.
It happened after an altercation between the two at the lounge early Saturday morning. Witnesses say they saw them arguing inside the lounge, which then escalated outside.

On August 10, around 11:00 p.m., officers were called to Coal Street Park for an assault victim.
The victim stated he was attending a softball game when five men confronted him, police stated.
