Concerns raised over potential Commonwealth Health sale

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Significant concerns were raised and centered on a potential healthcare shakeup in northeastern Pennsylvania. Three hospitals are included in a proposed deal between Commonwealth Health and Tenor Health Foundation. Now, one of the hospitals is pushing back.

Board members at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital are asking state lawmakers for their help to halt a deal involving the sale of the hospital.

Man facing charges after allegedly killing baby

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Wilkes-Barre man is accused of killing a baby.

Police arrested 26-year-old Quinton Yachera.

Wilkes-Barre Police responded in may to a call for an unresponsive infant.

His girlfriend's 11-month-old son was taken to the hospital where the child died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Yachera claimed the boy bumped his head multiple times.

Eight charged with selling large amounts of drugs across Pa.

(WBRE/WYOU) — A group of eight who conspired to sell large amounts of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and other various drugs is now facing several charges, police stated.

According to Acting United States Attorney John Gurganus, the following eight people were indicted by a federal grand jury on drug trafficking charges and firearm offenses:

Marvin Rivera, a/k/a “Mace,” 26, of Allentown

Oliver Rivera, 31, of Drums

Mark Reynolds, 57, of Wilkes-Barre

Sherrielee Stout, 32, of Plymouth

Chandler George, 34, of Allentown

Officer allegedly gets placed in 'headlock' during fight with driver

BUTLER TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a traffic stop led to a fight with a driver who placed a Luzerne County police officer in a "headlock" to avoid arrest.

Butler Township police stated that 34-year-old Eliezer Diaz from Wapwallopen was pulled over on East Butler Drive for aggressively driving his motorcycle.

Authorities say he refused to hand over his license and then placed an officer in a "headlock," while attempting to grab his gun.

City launches workforce development partnership with LCCC

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some new perks are on the way for city workers in Wilkes-Barre. The city partnered with the Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) to offer city employees a 50% discount on tuition.

They signed the partnership on Wednesday at City Hall.

The city will fund 25% of the tuition, while LCCC will fund another 25% and the employee will cover the rest.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Scranton police are warning of a scam in the area.

The department says they have been getting several reports of phone calls claiming to be a Scranton officer and demanding money.

They want you to know no officer will ever request money electronically using things like phone calls, gift cards, or wire transfers.
