Families celebrate Christmas early with Sensitive Santa in Pittston

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Christmas is a little more than four weeks away, but that didn't stop some local families from celebrating early.

Coffee Inclusive in Pittston welcomed back the Sensitive Santa program on Sunday for a second straight year.

Sensitive Santa is an adapted Santa visit for children and families with special needs.

More than 100 children attended the event.

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Edwardsville police lead the parade for a patriotic event this time of year.

A crowd gathered Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park for the 11th Annual Warrior Christmas Tree Lighting.

The tree honors those who have served and are missed at home by family and friends.

The various colored stars on the tree represent veterans' reserves, those wounded in action, active duty in combat and deployed, those killed in action, and POWs and MIAs.

Three people displaced after Luzerne County fire

HUGHESTOWN, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Three people have been displaced after a Saturday morning fire in Luzerne County.

According to Chief Jeff Balut of the Hughestown Police Department, a call came in around 1:00 p.m. for a reported structure on the unit block of Reynolds Street.

Officials say the fire started in an upstairs bedroom of the home on Reynolds Street.

Crews were quickly able to contain the fire to the upstairs of the home.

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The snowstorm certainly made its mark on NEPA power outages, road closures, and some nasty traffic backups.

Those power outages and road closures are still in effect in some spots.

But interstates across our area are now back open after being shut down for several hours.

Traffic continues to move smoothly here on Interstate 81 northbound. For hours this afternoon, it was at a massive standstill and backed up for several miles.
