Crews to inspect Nanticoke-West Nanticoke Bridge

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A reminder for drivers about a bridge closure beginning on Monday: PennDOT says crews will inspect the Nanticoke-West Nanticoke Bridge as it has now in the past.

Officials say the bridge needs to be repaired or replaced.

Bridge beam deliveries may cause delays across NEPA

The inspection and closure start Monday morning at 7:00 a.m. and continue until Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.

PennDOT recommends using the South Cross Valley Expressway as a detour while the bridge is closed.

Owners claims vandalism to Trump store in Dallas

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The owners of a Trump campaign store in Luzerne County claim a tent setup for a Halloween event outside the store was vandalized Friday night.

The store located in Dallas Township was preparing to host a children's Halloween event outside the store on Sunday.

They explained when they showed up Saturday morning for work, the spot where candy would be given out and kids would participate in Halloween activities was destroyed.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Small businesses are surely feeling the love in Scranton.

The local small business, the Giving Tree Wellness Center, held its third annual Fall Block Party on Penn Avenue on Saturday afternoon.

The all-ages event featured businesses along the 300 block of Penn Avenue with tarot card readings, pumpkin painting, and express chair massages.

Organizers say they even gave themselves a nickname for their efforts on the block.

Habitat for Humanity host Halloween 5k

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local organization that offers zero-percent interest mortgages to those in need has just got a huge helping hand on Saturday.

More than one hundred costumed participants were in Kingston for the Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity's Inaugural Halloween 5k Saturday morning.

The organization helps Partner Families who may not qualify for conventional mortgages.

Habitat for Humanity will use the proceeds to help fund materials and construction for building homes for their Partner Families.

LARKSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some trick-or-treaters are getting the jump on Halloween this weekend.

Costumed kids and their families turned out today in Larksville for the second annual State Street Elementary School trunk or treat.

More than 50 children dressed up and stopped by several stations to clean up candy and other treats.

The event also featured a deejay, an ice cream truck, and basket raffles.

Preventing tragedy through drug take-back day

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Those in the fight against drug abuse are ramping up efforts this weekend to help prevent a tragedy.

October 26, marks National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

A lock bag, pill disposal bags, and more were all handed out for free Saturday afternoon at the Luzerne County Courthouse. The District Attorney's Office hosts this annual Drug Take-Back Day.

This year's setup was a drive-through where people could drop off pills they no longer needed. They were also able to receive Narcan kits at no cost.

SWOYERSVILLE BOROUGH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The Swoyersville Police Department were looking for an 83-year-old woman last seen Friday around 1:30 p.m.

Police say 83-year-old Joan Chisarick was last seen operating her 2008 red Honda Accord on Lackawanna Avenue in Swoyersville Borough.

Chisarick is described as 5'3'', 150 lbs. with brown hair and blue eyes.

WYOMING BOROUGH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One person is dead after a motorcycle collided with a car Friday afternoon in Wyoming.

Wyoming Area Regional Police Department say that driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries Saturday morning.

The crash happened Friday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. in the 500 block of Route 11 (Wyoming Avenue) near the Wyoming Area Regional Police headquarters.

Route 11 was shut down for approximately two hours on Friday because of the crash.

Police say the driver of the car was treated and released at the hospital.

Woman allegedly caught stealing over $1,000 at Walmart

WILKES-BARRE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman was arrested after police say she was under the influence while trying to steal over $1,000 worth of items from Walmart.

According to the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department, on October 24 around 2:30 p.m., Diana Alai, 40, was caught shoplifting $1,234.65 worth of merchandise from Walmart.

Police say Alai was found under the influence and officers seized suspected crystal meth found inside a pill bottle with her name inside a purse she stole.
