Fire causes damage to Jenkins Township house

JENKINS TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A fire Tuesday morning in Jenkins Township caused damage to a home.

Crews responded to a house fire in the 1200 block of Main Street in Jenkins Township Tuesday morning around 10:00 a.m.

Councilman’s car catches fire after striking deer

Jenkins Twp fire Chief Kosisky stated the three people who lived in the home with two pets have been displaced and assisted by the Red Cross.

Damage can be seen on the second floor of the home and Chief Kosisky said there was a heavy fire in the kitchen area.

Firefighters battle Exeter Township brush fire

EXETER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews battled a smoky brush fire Monday afternoon in Luzerne County at the Wyoming County line.

Local firefighters and crews from the Department of Forestry were on the scene.

The fire started as a house fire on Mill Hill Road in Exeter Township and quickly spread into the woods and up the hill.

The dry conditions helped fuel the flames, making it a difficult firefight for crews.

No one was hurt and the homeowners are able to return home on Monday.

Luzerne County voter registrations dropped off en masse considered valid

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce has released the findings of an investigation performed by his office after numerous public complaints about documents submitted to the Luzerne County Election Bureau by a former county employee.

Sanguedolce said Monday that the complaints ranged from allegations of thousands of voter registrations being submitted, to actual ballots being submitted to the election bureau.

Nanticoke fire leaves home damaged, one displaced

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews were called to a fire that damaged a home in Nanticoke and left one person displaced early Monday morning.

According to Nanticoke Fire Chief Boncal, crews arrived on scene at 47 Agostina Drive around 5:30 a.m. to find heavy fire visible from the building.

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Plymouth councilman is warning drivers to be extra careful on the road after a near-death experience this weekend. He was making a daily commute to work on a busy expressway when a deer collided with his SUV.

"Thank God I wasn't knocked out or anything like that because I would not have survived," said Plymouth Councilman Adam Morehart.

Morehart was headed to work Saturday morning on the Cross Valley Expressway when, in an instant, a four-point buck leaped over a divider and directly into the path of his SUV.

Community scares up good time with Shawnee Spooktacular

PLYMOUTH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local community is scaring up a good time this weekend for some early Halloween fun. Kids dressed head to toe in their favorite costumes showed up Sunday afternoon at Goodwill Hose Company in Plymouth.

It's the first-ever Shawnee Spooktacular put on by Plymouth Alive.

A bounce house, pumpkin decorating, and walking tacos were part of the fun.

Plymouth Fire Department, the Shawnee Indians Football Program, and the Historical Society are a few community organizations that helped set up the event.

Kids got to trick-or-treat early in Downtown Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some masked marauders roaming Downtown Wilkes-Barre is no reason to call the police this weekend. It's all part of an annual celebration on the Public Square.

From inflatable costumes to box costumes and even iconic band members, they were all part of this year's trick-or-treating event in Downtown Wilkes-Barre.

Kids dressed up as all kinds of characters which caught the attention of many, including one five-year-old girl.
