Arrest made after drugs sold to middle school children

DALLAS TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A 19-year-old has been arrested after police say he sold drugs to middle school-age children.

On April 1, the Dallas Township Police Department stated they began an investigation after getting a complaint that multiple juveniles got sick after using THC vape pens sold to them by an adult.

As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Avery Alexander, of Harvey’s Lake, was arrested and charged with criminal use of a communication facility and corruption of minors.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they responded to an incident at Kirby Park during the Wilkes-Barre Cherry Blossom Festival for a victim who allegedly had a gun pulled on them and was struck in the face.

According to police, on April 26, around 7:30 p.m., officers located a juvenile female who said she went to get between her friend and the juvenile suspect who were having a verbal altercation.

Police investigate burned body found in Hazleton

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — There was a horrifying discovery that is now a case of whodunnit on Sunday. A burning body was discovered alongside a road in Luzerne County.

Hazleton City and Pennsylvania State Police vehicles filled the 100 block of Muir Avenue Sunday afternoon as officers served a search warrant on one side of a double-block home.

A neighbor tells 28/22 News she heard a series of loud bangs as police forced their way into the home.

Cherry Blossom Five Mile Run stepped off in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The weather dried out just in time for a Sunday morning run in the park. The sound of an air horn sent dozens of runners and walkers on their way through Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre.

They took part in the Wyoming Valley Striders' 50th Annual Cherry Blossom Five Mile Run.

The course took participants from Kirby Park to the Luzerne County levee trail and back.

The Wyoming Valley Striders are celebrating a half-century, and 200 runners signed up to be part of this milestone run.

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The wind is the cause of a scary sight and a closed road in Luzerne County.

A telephone pole was seen leaning over the 100 block of Parsonage Street Sunday afternoon.

Search warrant served, Hazleton Police investigating burned body

Pittston City Police and Fire had the street blocked off, and authorities say PPL is on the way to the scene.

Police say they have been watching the pole for about three hours and are not worried about it falling.
