Woman accused of stealing vehicle during test drive

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman is facing charges after police say she stole a vehicle during a test driver run from Motorworld.

According to the Wilkes-Barre Police Department, on April 23, 42-year-old Brandy Peters, of Laurel Run, arrived at Motorworld to test drive a Kia with a salesperson in the passenger seat.

After Peters told the salesperson that she did not like the Kia, and walked to the Toyota sales building. Police said she then looked into a Toyota and gave her driver’s license prior to taking the SUV on a test drive.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The City of Wilkes-Barre’s annual Cherry Blossom Festival is happening. Find out the events and vendors that will be there this weekend.

The annual Cherry Blossom Festival will take place Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Kirby Park, on Market Street.

The event will include over 40 food and retail vendors, amusement rides and games, and live entertainment.

AG Sunday plans to beef up local law enforcement

WYOMING, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Pennsylvania Attorney General, Dave Sunday wants to beef up crime fighting efforts across our state.

He met with local law enforcement to find out the challenges their departments are facing and how lawmakers can help.

While a number of issues were discussed, the drug epidemic and difficulty hiring new officers were some of the main concerns these departments brought to the table.

"If our communities aren't safe, nothing else matters," voiced Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday.

Police investigating shooting at local park

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Police are investigating a reported shooting Thursday evening in Hazleton.

According to the Hazleton City Police Department, officers were called to the Beech Street Playground for a report of gunshots followed by people screaming at 5:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, witnesses informed policer that the victim had been transported by a private vehicle, treated, and released for non-life threatening injuries.

Local medical organizations come together for Wellness Day

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Today is a beautiful day to be outside and an even better day to focus on wellness.

Several non profits, local universities, and hospitals came together on Public Square in downtown Wilkes-Barre to hold a Wellness Fair.

Doctors, dentists, and clinical experts there performed consultations, vaccinations, and screenings.
