WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wilkes-Barre City residents came out on Monday for a special recycling event. A drive-through E-Recycling and Paper Shredding event was held for city residents at the Wilkes-Barre Public Works facility.

Those who attended had to present proof of residency.

Electronics such as laptop computers, keyboards, and microwaves were accepted free of charge.

ATHENS TOWNSHIP, BRADFORD COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News is learning more about a deadly shooting in Bradford County.

Police say 59-year-old John Kraus was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Vista Drive in Athens Township near Sayre, Friday afternoon.

After further investigation, police found that Kraus violently attacked David Hancock, who then shot him in self-defense.

Luzerne County superintendent facing assault charges

Kraus was brought to the hospital, where he died from his injuries, and Hancock was treated for head injuries.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— We now know the name of the man killed in a Luzerne County fire over the weekend.

The coroner says a 66-year-old Gregory Redington was killed in Sunday's fire at East South and South Hancock streets in Wilkes-Barre.

Seven others escaped unharmed and are receiving help from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County school district's superintendent is facing charges after an alleged incident over the weekend.

Kevin Booth, 54, of Pittston, has been charged with simple assault and harassment after police say he was involved in a physical altercation with a woman. Police say the woman told them that Booth had "kinda tossed me around a bit" and "choked" her.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An annual run is keeping alive the memory of a Wilkes University graduate who lost her battle with cancer. Dozens of runners, including some clad in pink, took part on Sunday in the Fourth Annual Kisses to Cancer 5K.

They took off along the Luzerne County Levee Trail near the Dorothy Dickson Dart Center.

The run honors the life and legacy of the late Air Force Major Candice Adams Ismirle.

HAZLE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some people jump out of planes for the thrill, others are jumping for hope. Skydivers at a small airport in the foothills of the Poconos are taking leaps to raise money for a good cause.

The runway at Hazleton Regional Airport is buzzed with excitement and purpose as skydivers prepare to climb thousands of feet for a cause that touches countless lives. 

Each jump contributes $35 to the Breast Cancer Community Center in Allentown, helping families and funding research.
