Wine festival raises money for non-profit

WEST WYOMING, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A popular fundraiser brought together wine enthusiasts and supporters of a local non-profit. The wine festival Rhythm and Wine returned to the Moonlite Drive-In in West Wyoming for its fifth year on Saturday.

The festival featured live music, food, and more than 20 vendors serving up wine, moonshine, cider, and more.

They also raised money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of NEPA using sponsors, ticket sales, and raffles.

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Cold water and a good cause: The Pittston City Polar Plunge made its debut Saturday afternoon during the city's Tomato Festival.

The event, held just a block away from the parade route, is part of a special Olympics Pennsylvania's biggest fundraiser of the year.

Organizers say about 35 people took the leap on Saturday, with the pool even sporting tomato floaties to match the festival theme.

Giving away bike helmets at Pittston Tomato Festival

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pittston's Tomato Festival is not just about fruit, food, and fun. For some, it is also about keeping children safe.

Volunteers from the non-profit, HKQ Kids, distributed helmets for its Annual Bike Helmet Giveaway on Saturday. The giveaway hopes to raise awareness about helmet safety.

Any child was able to receive a free helmet as long as they were accompanied by an adult. The helmets came in a variety of colors.

"I got red," Bike Helmet Recipient Autumn Walsh said.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A massive crowd turned out in downtown Wilkes-Barre to see and hear a major recording star perform. John Oates, half of the unforgettable duo Hall and Oates, played and sang some of the greatest hits in downtown Wilkes-Barre.

People started showing up hours before the opener to wait for the rock 'n' roll hall of famer to take the stage, and judging by the crowd, he definitely delivered.

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It would not be Tomato Festival weekend without the big parade. The annual celebratory spectacle stepped off in Downtown Pittston right after the 5K event.

The parade has been a part of the Pittston Tomato Festival since the very beginning in 1984.

Once again, it did not disappoint, bringing out a huge crowd lining the streets to take in the sights and sounds.

More than 200 runners got the day started in Center City for the Annual Pittston Tomato Festival 5K Walk and Race.

The course took participants to and from Downtown Pittston with some hills in between.

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities have identified the man who died after a crash in Wilkes-Barre Township Saturday morning.

According to Luzerne County Coroner Dion Fernandes, 26-year-old Adam Shaw of Plymouth died in a one-car crash at the intersection of Highland Park Boulevard and Interstate 81 Southbound offramp in Wilkes-Barre Township.
