Rockin' The Mountain Concert Series comes to Hazleton

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The City of Hazleton is paying tribute to rock legends this summer with a new concert series.

The City of Hazleton in cooperation with Visit Luzerne County (The Luzerne County Convention and Visitors Bureau) has announced the Rockin' The Mountain music series, which will take place on three specific Fridays this summer at City View Park in Hazleton.

Bridge on Laurel Run Road closing until November

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wilkes-Barre Township Police are reporting the bridge going over I-476 on Laurel Run Road will be closed for months.

Starting February 26, the bridge going over I-476 on Laurel Run Road will be closed until November 2024 for replacement.

The closure has been added to Waze and will provide a detour to drivers routing to/through Wilkes-Barre Township, officials said.

Primus returns to the F.M. Kirby Center

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — For the first time in almost 12 years, the band Primus is set to return to the F.M. Kirby Center on Monday, May 6.

The show will start at 8:00 p.m. and doors will open at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6.

Ticket prices go on sale to the public on Friday, February 23 at 10:00 a.m. and the presale begins on Wednesday, February 21 at 10:00 am.

Ticket prices are $49.50, $59.50, $69.50, $99.50, and $119.50 plus fees. VIP packages are also available but can only be purchased online.

Woman charged with DUI after crashing car with two children

CONYNGHAM TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman is facing DUI charges after police say she crashed her car with two young children inside and then vomited on troopers.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, on February 20 around 4:00 p.m., troopers responded to a crash near the 200 block of Ruckle Hill Road in Wapwallopen.

Suspect in Hanover Twp. McDonald's stabbing taken into custody

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man accused of stabbing a customer at McDonald’s is now in police custody.

On February 9, investigators said 40-year-old Shawn William Shafer, of Wilkes-Barre Township, was cursing at a McDonald's employee when a customer intervened. Shafer reportedly slapped the victim, went to get a knife from his car, and stabbed the customer two times.

Fire damages chimney manufacturing plant in Lackawanna County

After the stabbing, police said Shafer fled the scene.

Water restored to Exeter Borough community

EXETER BOROUGH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News has new information about some water issues in a mobile home park. After four days without running water, crews were able to fully restore water to the community in Luzerne County.

According to Exeter Borough's manager and an ARX maintenance manager, residents at Birchwood Village Estates in Exeter have had running water since 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Pittston Man facing over 50 child porn charges

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Pittston man is facing charges after authorities report he downloaded child porn.

On February 12, police say officers received two Google-generated Cybertips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children stating that 23-year-old Brayden Milcavage was believed to have uploaded and stored child pornography to the Google Drive infrastructure.

Investigators say 17 of the graphic images described in the affidavit were determined by police to be child abuse materials.

New personal care home fighting for state license ​

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new kind of personal care home for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia opened its doors in December in the 'Diamond City.'

Now, the facility is fighting for a state license, to expand its care in the community.

ReminisCity Dementia Village in Downtown Wilkes Barre is a personal care home with a new, innovative approach to better serve those with Alzheimer's and dementia. However, they're facing some obstacles with their mission.

Food distribution for Wilkes-Barre fire victims

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We now know careless smoking was to blame for the fire that sparked at a Wilkes-Barre high-rise.

It sent more than a dozen people to the hospital and displaced more than 100 residents.

Community organizations came together Thursday to distribute food and supplies as the residents settled back into their homes.

There was a flurry of activity inside the B'nai B'rith Apartments.

Workers and volunteers from CEO Weinberg Food Bank were packing bags of food and supplies and delivering them to residents in each unit.

PD: Suspect wanted for multiple retail thefts at CVS, other stores

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A search for a suspect is underway after police reported multiple thefts at two CVS locations and other stores across Luzerne County.

The Wyoming Area Regional Police say they have received a report of a retail theft that had occurred at CVS Pharmacy in both Exeter Borough and Wyoming Borough.

Three wanted for alleged retail theft at Sheetz

The suspect pictured has allegedly been involved in other retail thefts in surrounding jurisdictions, police stated.
