Man allegedly used $2 million in pandemic funds on a boat

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The United States District Attorney's Office announced the arrest of a 46-year-old man from Stroudsburg after he allegedly secured $2.2 million and spent it on some luxury items.

Officials say that Brian Albelli of Stroudsburg was sentenced to 48 months of prison time following his convictions of wire fraud and money laundering.

The U.S. District Attorney's Office states that Albelli filed approximately 20 fraudulent applications for pandemic stimulus funds under various business entities under hid and his family's control.

Man sentenced to life in prison for murder of clerk

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday in relation to the death of a store clerk.

This comes after a robbery in December 2020 in which a 50-year-old employee of Craig's Food Mart in Hazleton, Ashokkumar Patel, was fatally shot.

Burglar removes air conditioner to break into home

Security cameras at the store captured Jafet Rodriguez committing the crime. Patel was mopping when Rodriguez rushed into the store wearing a mask, shoved Patel into a closet and shot him.
