Man found guilty of 3rd degree murder in 2023 shooting

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Wilkes-Barre man has been found guilty of third-degree murder and other charges after a woman was shot dead last year according to police.

Natanihel San Martin was found guilty of third-degree murder, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, and endangering the welfare of children after he allegedly murdered a woman in February 2023.

Wyoming Area Secondary Center dismisses students due to gas odor

WEST PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A school in Luzerne County is dismissing early after officials say the smell of gas could be detected.

According to a post from the Wyoming Area Intermediate Centers Facebook page, the Secondary Center will be evacuating and dismissing students early on Friday after the gas smell was noted.

Man turns himself in after alleged rape

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man has been charged with rape by forcible compulsion, and indecent assault of a person less than 16 years old after turning himself in.

According to Hazleton Police, Arvin De Jesus Mercedes, 20, turned himself in on October 1. Police say the charges come from an investigation involving the rape of a juvenile female.

Suspect hospitalized, house burning after Scranton standoff

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One man was hospitalized and a house was set on fire after a standoff with Scranton police Friday morning.

The suspect is 43-year-old Michael Scott Wormuth, he's currently in custody at Geisinger CMC with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said he was breathing when he was being taken to the hospital and he's likely in critical condition

At 7:22 Friday morning police received a call from a female who fled a domestic dispute with her ex-boyfriend, Michael Scott Wormuth, at 405 Bartel Street in Scranton.
