Shapiro announces major revitalization project in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — On Thursday, Governor Josh Shapiro joined local lawmakers in Downtown Scranton to announce a major revitalization project.

With the help of state funds, Fidelity Bank will move from its longtime location at Dunmore Corners to the Scranton Electric Building Downtown.

Officials at Thursday's news conference say this move will bring more business to Downtown Scranton. Bringing new life to a historic landmark building.

The Scranton Electric Building first opened its doors in 1896.

Two-vehicle crash leaves one dead in Schuylkill County

MAHANOY TWP., SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A deadly two-vehicle crash shuts down a road in Schuylkill County Thursday afternoon.

Schuylkill County Communications Center tells 28/22 News around 3:30 p.m. crews responded to a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer and a sedan on Morea Road in Mahanoy Township.

Truck driver charged with homicide after deadly crash in Monroe County

One person has been reported dead as a result of the crash. State police are continuing to investigate.

Brush fire smoke causes traffic delays on I-81

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Fire crews were busy battling brush fires in Lackawanna County Thursday.

Traffic is moving again on Interstate 81 North in South Abington Township after smoke from a brush fire slowed down the afternoon commute.

Crews were called Thursday afternoon for a brush fire in the Clarks Summit and South Abington Township area.

Man charged after allegedly assaulting 7-month-old

DICKSON CITY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Dickson City man has been charged after allegedly smothering a seven-month-old baby.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to Geisinger Community Medical Center for a report of an assault against a seven-month-old child.

The criminal complaint states the baby had a mark on her stomach that resembled the shape of a hand and a few cuts on her neck. As stated in the affidavit, 19-year-old Tre Fox-Frazier was left alone at home with the seven-month-old baby.

PA Senate Race: Recount ordered as some counties continue first count

(WHTM) - Pennsylvania's U.S. Senate race is still not official despite Republican Dave McCormick calling for incumbent Democrat Bob Casey to concede. A recount is coming but some counties still haven't finished their first count.

On Thursday, a lawsuit by Republicans against every Pennsylvania county argued undated or misdated mail ballots must be tossed out. There are even more legal challenges, some ballot by ballot.
