Organizers raise Italian flag in anticipation of La Festa Italiana

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — NEPA's premier celebration of Italian heritage begins this coming Friday in Lackawanna County.

On Monday, organizers raised the Italian flag at Courthouse Square in Downtown Scranton.

The festival will be held on the square over Labor Day weekend from August 30 to September 2.

La Festa welcomes thousands to the Electric City and offers a wide variety of local vendors, live entertainment, and plenty of delicious food.

Community coming together to support Clarks Summit business

CLARKS SUMMIT, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A fire that destroyed a home in South Abington Sunday night was the home that belonged to a family that owns a local diner in Clarks Summit. Now the community is rallying around them.

We now know that the home belonged to the family that owns the Silver Spoon Diner on State Street.

It's only been 24 hours since the tragic fire, but already the Clarks Summit community is showing just how big its heart is after tragedy struck one of its own.

PennDOT locations to close over Labor Day weekend

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — All driver's license and photo centers will be closed on Labor Day weekend.

PennDOT says all commonwealth locations will be closed from Saturday, August 31, through Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day.

New West Nile case detected in Lackawanna County

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Another positive case of the West Nile Virus has been found in a mosquito in Lackawanna County.

Officials say the positive case was found near the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail in Archbald.

American Red Cross impacted by Hurricane Debby

Authorities say residents should take precautions when outdoors, like wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants.

Officials say to date no human cases have been reported in the county.
