Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) is being floated as a future standard-bearer for Democrats following the party’s stunning nationwide defeat on Election Day. 

Shapiro, who made it to the final round of Vice President Harris’s running mate picks, has long been seen as a rising star within the Democratic Party. He has also received praise from Republicans for his bipartisan record as governor and enjoys popularity in Pennsylvania, a critical swing state Democrats lost at the presidential level this cycle. 

Luzerne Council, county officials to not borrow money in 2025 for public projects

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Good news for Luzerne County taxpayers: For the first time in more than 10 years, the county will not be borrowing money for public projects.

Luzerne County officials consider this to be a big win for taxpayers.

"This decision is not just a number on a spreadsheet or balance sheet, it is a testament to our collective commitment to fiscal responsibility and prudent financial management," said Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo.

Free Thanksgiving meals given out in Tamaqua

TAMAQUA, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local Italian restaurant continued its annual tradition of handing out free turkey dinners today to those in need in Schuylkill County.

Recipients could pick up as many meals as they needed from La Dolce Casa in Tamaqua.

The restaurant has been hosting the event since 2017 and has seen the effort grow.

They started with only a couple hundred meals. On Tuesday, they handed out over 3,000, 500 more than they donated last year.

Firefighters respond to Kingston blaze

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters responded to a structure fire in Kingston Tuesday afternoon.

The Kingston Forty Fort Fire Department was called to Third Avenue in Kingston for a reported structure fire at 5:20 p.m.

Pedestrian killed on Route 115 identified

So far, there are no reported injuries, and at 6:05 p.m. the fire was considered under control.

Right now, there is no word on what sparked the fire.
