UGI increasing gas rates almost 9% in December

(WBRE/WYOU) — UGI Utilities has announced they will increase rates on purchased natural gas beginning on December 1st.

Starting in December, UGI Utilities says that residential customers will see their bills increase 8.7%.

This would raise the average customer's bill from $95.40 per month, to $103.69 per month, UGI noted in its announcement.

Perkins to close in Stroudsburg due to I-80 expansion

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Perkins Restaurant & Bakery location in Stroudsburg will permanently close next week due to the Interstate 80 expansion, officials stated.

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery (Perkins American Food Co.) in Stroudsburg will close its doors on December 2.

Ryan Troup, Perkins Vice President of Human Resources stated the decision to close comes as a result of the continued Interstate 80 expansion project.

LEWISBURG, UNION COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A former marketing director is accused of taking over $800,000 from a visitors bureau through a fake marketing company scheme.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, 43-year-old Timothy Alan Dowhower is facing charges of embezzling money for over six years from his employer, the Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau.

Police say they arrested Christopher Diaz, 35, after initially attempting to pull him over for weaving across the road and committing multiple vehicle code violations.

Authorities say after an officer tried to pull Diaz over, he did not stop and a 90-mile-per-hour chase ensued.
